Matty J is a great guy, he was enthusiastic about the services he provided for the program, and always made the contestant's experience a good one while they were competing at state. He provided a wonderful service, and likely didn't want to get involved in the drama. I highly doubt that he is "close" with the previous leadership, people have different definitions of "close." He may have known only a small portion of the information. People who are not involved in the daily inner workings of the org may not have access to all the info.
