30 August 2013 #440 Cover Story: Pie in the Sky
The election campaign has played out to a jaded national audience. People are disillusioned, not inspired. We deserve more from our leaders and elected representatives. This edition, we present a few ideas from The Big Issue team, including editor Alan Attwood, on how things could be better.

Also in this issue:

Fiona Crawford reports from Poznan, Poland on the Street Socceroos’ success at the recent Homeless World Cup; Matt Shea meets veteran rocker Vic Simms to discuss the reissue of his cult 1973 album The Loner; Tara Judah talks filmmaking in Laos with The Rocket director Kim Mordaunt; and, in ‘Roving Eye’ we present images from Christina Simons of the seafaring Bajau people of southeast Asia.

This edition’s ‘Vendor Profile’ features Frank from Melbourne. And on ‘Streetsheet’ we have contributions from Owen D and Gordon in Melbourne, Carmen in Adelaide, Bradley W in Sydney and Wayne P in Brisbane. We also have an action shot of new vendor Darryl selling his first magazine in Darlinghurst, Sydney.
