NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Goldman Sachs Group Inc. /quotes/zigman/188479/quotes/nls/gs GS +0.09% , Visa Inc. /quotes/zigman/502306/quotes/nls/v V +3.38% and Nike Inc. /quotes/zigman/235840/quotes/nls/nke NKE +2.17% will join the Dow Jones Industrial Average /quotes/zigman/627449 DJIA +0.85% after the close of trading on Friday, Sept. 20, with the change effective at the open on Monday, Sept. 23. The companies leaving the blue-chip index are Bank of America Corp. /quotes/zigman/190927/quotes/nls/bac BAC -0.27% , Hewlett-Packard Co. /quotes/zigman/229301/quotes/nls/hpq HPQ -0.27% and Alcoa Inc. /quotes/zigman/246295/quotes/nls/aa AA +0.06% . Goldman will replace BofA, Visa will replace H-P and Nike will replace Alcoa. "The index changes were prompted by the low stock price of the three companies slated for removal and the index committee's desire to diversify the sector and industry group representation of the index," said S&P Dow Jones Indices in a news release on Tuesday. The release also said the changes won't cause any disruption in the level of the index, because the divisor used to calculate the DJIA from its components' prices on their respective home exchanges will be changed.
