Wow, it's a been a while since I've been here.

So, I'll cut to the chase in case anyone wants to skip my rambling. The best confirmation we have is the payroll ledgers from that period, which lists out all of the players and extras. Tommy's name doesn't appear anywhere. (Thanks to Bob Demoss for that info, by the way).

Regarding Tommy's "memory"... I think the only reason why he said he was in "Spanky" was because Leonard Maltin and Richard Bann said that he was. With all due respect, I think they were mistaken (Hey, it happens to even the best researchers).

If I recall, the only mention of "Spanky" in Tom's autobio is in a filmography placed towards the end of the book. I'm thinking he figured, "Well, I was so young then. I don't remember. I'm sure they're right." Or perhaps someone else was in charge of compiling the filmography and just rolled with whatever was in the Our Gang book. Can't say I blame them. It's hard to argue against it.

Plus, it doesn't really make sense for Tommy to have been at Roach during that period. Tom recalled being hired almost immediately after his first meeting with Roach. Why would Roach have hired him for a tiny role and not used him for a whole year? Plus, he had no non-Roach credits prior to "Forgotten Babies" (his real debut). I don't think his family would have just sat idly in California for an entire year.

P.S. Yes, the kid in question does look like "Bobbie" from "Readin' and Writin'", which would have been made just a few months before "Spanky." The same kid is in "Free Eats," made in between those two. Wouldn't be surprised if he (she?) is our mystery person. We're still trying to figure out that kid's name.
