Halzay had been smiling happily and talking in a quiet voice to Salzay, though her deep depression was evident in her eyes. However, when he stood in front of her, and she saw him, fear, anger, and pain held onto for so many turns of hiding--about four, to be frank--seemed to burst through her.

She started to shak just a little, her eyes flashing in an indescribable mix of anger, depression, and most of all, fear.

"S'peer."

It was all she could trust her voice to say. This was the man that had turned her life upside-down, made her days on Pern like living through constant threadfall. The only good thing that had come of this encounter was Salzay, and even that had its limits. Did HE know what it was like to raise a small girl by himself? Did HE know how hard it was not to just give up and dump her off in some Hold, just to live a normal dragonrider's life? NO! He didnh't. That was her. In fact, he'd probably had so much fun with all the new weyrmates and people to flirt with, he'd forgotten all about poor Halzay, the girl he'd forced parental responsibilities on! Until now. Now, he was back in her life, and she in his. And that was NOT good to her.

She held on tight to her little Salzay, hoping he wouldn't recognize the child as his own... and that Salzay could keep her mouth shut.
