Date Posted: 04:30:07 01/05/26 Mon Here're my slightly belated Christmas greeting! This time I am not to blame for the delay, but rather my crazy parents: they took us as a family for Christmas vacation to an incredible place, a small cottage in the middle of the forest. The nearest neighbour is five kilometers (3 miles) away, the grocery store 35 kilometers (22 miles) away, and the nearest town 185 kilometers (115 miles) away. The road leading to the cabin is so narrow that there is no room for two cars to pass each other, and what was worse: THERE IS NO ELECTRICITY IN THE CABIN! Heating is done with a wood stove and an open fireplace, which is also used for cooking! You cannot charge your mobile phone on the wood stove or the fireplace! So I had to be without my phone for two weeks. At first, the whole trip felt like a punishment – not quite the same as a spanking, of course – but it eventually and surprisingly became an exciting new experience. One morning, Dad woke me up at five, told me to put on my outerwear, and invited me to the cabin terrace. I couldn't see anything, couldn't hear anything. It was completely silent and I wondered why I had to be woken up in the middle of my sleep for this. I was irritated, I was starting to get cold and I complained that I wanted to go back to bed. Dad put his arm around my shoulders and asked me to listen. To listen to the silence. I was irritated. And I was cold. What kind of listening is there in silence? Dad sensed my irritation, tightened his grip on my shoulders and whispered: "Do you hear the silence?" It was such a strange question my anger subsided and I started listening. I focused on it. In fact, I had never heard such complete silence. There is nothing like that in cities and populated areas. We had been standing in silence for maybe five minutes when suddenly a terrible howl came from the forest, it sounded very close. I almost wet my pants and asked in almost panic what it was. My father tightened his grip on my shoulders and whispered that it was the king wolf calling to his pack! He had heard that howl the night before and had decided to wake me up to listen too. It was a sound like nothing I had ever heard in my life! Any of you? regards, JoaKim Here is a sample from the net: https://www.google.com/search?q=wolf+howling+gif+with+sound+free&oq=&aqs=chrome.4.69i59i450l8.6128j0j15&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#fpstate=ive&sv=CAMSNhowKg5yTTd4YmpBMzFudTY3TTIOck03eGJqQTMxbnU2N006DmRhSDBTYXU3WjBkTUZNIAQ4ABgHIMrtp40DMAJKCggCEAIYAiACKAI&vld=cid:7e37d119,vid:7oDceOXmT2s,st:0 [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
