Don't worry about it. I can understand the confusion. It seems a little confusing myself. I don't know why a teacher who would be allowed to paddle you right in front of the class with no adult witnesses or in a locker room under the same circumstances, would have to get an adult to witness a paddling in the hall. The only reasoning why a paddling would have possibly been allowed to be done bare in the locker room or on a kid's underwear that would even make any sense would be because the person paddling and the student getting paddled were the same sex. I can only imagine if a male Teacher or Administrator paddled a girl's bare bottom there would have been hell to pay and the same if a female Teacher did the same to a boy. I know there are schools now that still practice corporal punishment but as part of it only females are allowed to paddle girls. Yet boys can be paddled by male or females. There seems to have always been a lack of consistancy when it comes to CP in the schools. Who can do it? How many licks? What can be used? Witnesses or not? Even how hard you can hit. Most of the spankings and or paddlings I got at school hurt a little but didn't do any real damage. Truthfully, they hurt my feelings more than they did my butt. I had a couple that left marks that lasted more than a few hours and one that left some serious bruising that lasted well over a week. You had teachers that would just give you a couple of smacks on the bottom by hand. Others who used a small paddle or ruler. Then others who used big heavy paddles and some who had those same types of paddles with holes bored in them to increase the sting. A couple of examples for you. The paddle my Assistant Principal used on me that hurt me so bad without knowing the actual measurements, was a piece of Georgia Pine from eighteen to twenty-four inches in length, about five inches wide and probably half inch in thickness. It had holes in pairs the length of the blade and a handle that was long enough to be gripped with both hands and that's how he used it. When he swung the paddle he gripped with both hands and hit full force. Add to that, the skirt I was wearing had ridden up enough to reveal my nearly half exposed bottom because of the position I was held in. As hard as he hit and as exposed as I was, I not only had serious bruising but some blisters as well. It hurt pretty bad. Even on a fully covered bottom, given the situation it would have been bad. Which was verified by others who got paddled by him. The paddle that the Gym Teacher in High School used on the two girls was a Paddle Ball Paddle that is made to be swung fast like a tennis racquet. It was about ten inches in diameter and made of a lighter weight wood. It had a short handle so you really couldn't use both hands and while it would potentially hurt, it was unlikely it would do any serious damage even on bare skin much less fully clothed. After the girls were paddled and allowed to dress and go on their way. The Coach told me they had gotten into a fight in the showers. So that would explain why they were undressed. As far as the reason for the fight, it could have been over a boyfriend or whatever. I didn't really know the girls other than they were both Underclassmen. Either Freshmen or Sophomores. I had seen them at school but didn't know them.

It wasn't long after I graduated that our School system did adopt more consistent rules regarding CP. Teachers weren't allowed to do it anymore. It had to be done in the office. It had to be witnessed by another adult. That didn't last very long, because it was decided about a year before my son was born that the School System banned Corporal Punishment entirely. So even though most Southern States still allow it, it's up to the individual School Systems if they will allow it or not.

Like I said hon, I lived with it when I was in school, but the whole thing is confusing to me, but it was just part of life growing up in the South. My kids ask me about it and have a hard time believing any of it since they haven't experienced it for themselves. I guess they just chalk it up to being one of those "back in my day" stories.
