It seems a little weird to me that a paddling out in the hall (where anyone could pass by) would require a witness, but a (probably bare) paddling in the privacy of a locker room would not.

I apologize, as I don't mean to criticize your school. It's just that some of your stories about them, they often feel inconsistent to me. That's not your fault, and I'm not suggesting you're being dishonest. It just seems to me that they had a lousy way of doing business.

My school had MANY faults, and it REALLY sucked in ways that I can't even convey to you. But at least with them, we always knew what the rules and consequences were. We knew where we stood in the grand game of it.

So do you know who was in charge of the certification process for aids and teachers?

About the assistants:
Well we had teachers assistants sometimes, (it often depended what was going on in the class) and like I said sometimes they were positions given to students. (most often Seniors and Juniors)

Dr S (our Astronomy and physics teacher) often used Chip (his son) to grade papers for him. After Chip graduated, I was given that task. I'm sure another student was given the task after me.

Dr S was the head of our science department. So he had a lot of other work besides just what was going on in his classroom.

So Chip and I grading papers, that wouldn't probably count as student teachers in those instances, right?

I don't actually know if our substitutes were full-time or part-time or what was going on with them. I would imagine that each one had their own arrangement with the school. There was a lot of back-and-forth shuffling between our school and the girls school.

Some of the regular teachers had classes over at the girl's school.

For example, Mr Eagan was only on our campus on Tuesdays and Thursdays. While Mondays and Wednesdays he was at the girl's school. I had no idea where he was on Fridays. And there were stories that floated about.

(But that was his schedule for the 7 years.I went to that school.)

Meanwhile, during my 11th grade year, Mrs Hogan was known to spend afternoons teaching classes at the boy's school but mornings at the girl's school.

Our substitutes could fill in, whenever any of the teachers were sick. We knew who all the substitutes were. There was very little change in the lineup, from 6th to 12th. Some were actually great teachers in their own right!

Classes were always pre-planned, sometimes months in advance. So we knew what our assignments were, what was expected, and what the consequences were if we failed to accomplish the daily task. So for the most part substitutes only needed to mind the store, so to speak.

The only time class ever missed a beat, because the teacher wasn't present, would be if we were expected to get a lecture that day.

(Substitutes rarely knew subject-matter well enough to give a lecture)

Substitutes would even cover for the dorm-mothers. According to school rules, an adult or a Senior had to be in the dorm throughout the night. Seniors only typically covered dorms on weekends.

It was very rare for us to get a Senior in the dorm overnight during the week. They would often show up to assist the dorm-mothers during the week, but overnight we were minded by a DM a substitute, or one of the regular teachers.

Weekends were more lax, because most of the students would be away. Either at home or visiting with friends. (Sometimes, if two dorms, the same grade, were down to only 5 or 6 students for the weekend they'djust shut one down.)

They never liked mixing grades. Rarely was it done for classes, even rarer for the dorms.

Because of an issue with my Half-Brother being the same grade as me, in 8th grade I got moved to the 9s. It took less than a day for the whole school to hear about that.

I was in a dorm with older boys, it was legendary as far as we were concerned. And the shocking thing was that I was left there for the following semester.

I spent only three weeks shy of being four solid semesters in dorm 1 of grade 9!
