It's naive to take Coach C's comments as being in Fordham's best interests. For those of us who know him, we're keenly aware that, even though he did a great job of building our program, he's very adept at watching out for himself. Ask his former players. If you think he wants to see Fordham as a full scholarship program going to Richmond & kicking butt, you're wrong. We all know what he did for Fordham, but let's be practical & realistic. I was there during that conversation and I agree with Rambacker. Clawson had moved on to another agenda at that point and had his own interests at heart when he made his comments. At that point, he did not know that Fr. McShane would be making the enhancements he's making(FieldTurf, new locker room, scoreboard, etc.) but he has always been good at looking out for his own interests(not to demean the tremendous job he did at Fordham). You really don't have a clue. It's not a low blow at all. I have tremendous respect for Clawson and believe we owe him a lot for building our program from ground zero. But any coach is going to do what they need to do to get ahead. If you think he was thinking purely in terms of what's best for Fordham and not for himself since he had already left Fordham, then you need to get a grip on reality. That any coach after he leaves a job is looking ahead, not back and has his own interests at heart first and foremost. There was no intent on my part to "make it sound like there was widespread distrust" of Coach Clawson.
