Army ftbl games on ESPN for next 7 years... Fordham in the coming decade can raise the bar.. both on the field and in marketability.. scholarship ftbl is the next logical step... between the JETS new West Side Stadium, Army on ESPN each week and the CAA... Sure FU may not aspire to become 1A but our budget is that of a scholly 1aa program.. why not field a better team, receive more exposure & be competitive enough to schedule a Rutgers, U Conn, Duke type each year and play in West Side Stadium.. prefer Nova, Richmond , Delaware on reg basis .. than the PL.. -- FORDHAM RAMS FOOTBALL FORUM

No offense, '91 ram, but the postings on this board have continuously been calling out for a football program with an improved schedule. I have been suggesting that we schedule Army right away. West Point has , been down and we could be competitive. Of course we would have to be play at Michie Stadium but it's a wonderful place to watch an autumn game. Holy Cross beat Army. Lafayette played Army a few times the past 10 years. Even if Navy, Duke or Temple would be a challenge, play them. How about James Madison which played W. Va. UMass which played B.C.. (Rhode Island beat UMass, by the way.) Maine which beat Miss.St. Look at the "pushovers" the Big 10 powers schedule in the first weeks of the season. I'm not suggesting Big 10 opponents but what about a Duke, a Virginia, even a Buffalo or New Hampshire. Teams like Duquesne, Albany or C.W.Post are not the way. If we beat them, it was expected. James Madison, UMass, Maine and URI are all full scholarship 1-AA teams. Holy Cross beat Army at the cadet's nadir. Without schollies, we run the risk of injury and not being able to fully recover for the following week's game. That's not worth it for us. Right now we could compete with Army. Navy & UConn would destroy us by whatever margin their coaches decided. Duke and Temple, though awful in their respective conferences would thrash us. I'm all for dropping Albany, Duquense etc., but they should be replaced with 1AA teams. Unlike basketball, gross overmatches can, and do, result in injuries. Why doesnt FU upgrade to 1aa scholarship football... emulating Nova' .. solid 1aa football and a 1A game each year.. if FU moves to scholly ftbl I think it is realistic to play 1 game at West Side Stadium each year.. I wrote McShane an email this past summer about scheduling Army after hearing Coach Ross on WFAN... McShane responded the next day saying he would have McL and staff look into it... FU to UF in a year. Best QB recruited during the Glick era. A Florida kid that came here, never really got a serious look from Kruk (the QB/WR coach who did NOT recruit Whitehurst and therefore needed to push-up the kids he DID recruit). The CAA will ultimately go to 14 teams and will be the top 1-AA full scholarship league in the country. And we won't drop Georgetown and Holy Cross - we will continue to play both but we pick up William and Mary, Richmond, Villanova and Delaware plus we have a shot at a national championship with full scholarships.
