Subject: Scheduling

There have been some random threads about our scheduling problems, but I figured I'd start something new here to see what people think the solutions may be. Would you like to see us do any of the following?:

1. Play against some lower tier I-A schools like Rutgers, UCONN, Buffalo (although UCONN has quickly surpassed Rutgers and might be a mid-tier I-A school already).

2. Play against some mid-upper tier I-A schools like Penn St, Syracuse? Upside is the PR, downside is the inevitable beating. Not sure they would ever schedule us now that we would hurt their BCS chances so much, but for argument's sake let's assume they would.

3. Try to schedule something long-term with Army & Navy, two PL members who still play I-A football?

4. Try to fill in with more A-10 schools like Nova, N-eastern, etc. Again, stronger schedule but more difficult and we don't get the PR bounce out of playing a D-I school.

5. Bump down in competition and play some of the I-AA patsies that are only I-AA because they had to have all of their programs on the same NCAA level (i.e.- St. John's, Iona, etc.). More wins, softer schedule.

6. Something else?

Thoughts?

I'd love to see us get something going with Army. I believe Navy has crossed us off their list. The idea of weakening our schedule even further will do nothing for the school/program. (NT)CKRAM9812:09:32 03/01/05 Tue

Step1: Join the A-10/CAA Football League and go 1-AA full scholarship Step 2: Schedule lower 1-A schools selectively considering market, similar academic standing, etc. like Army, Tulane, Duke, Wake Forest, Rice, etc. 3. Support the program with a professional marketing dept. that promotes all sports at FU. (NT)Rambacker12:24:56 03/01/05 Tue

Re: Scheduling: AS a non-scholie it will become more difficult to upgrade our scheduling. Lower tier D-1A's will play early season games vs. 1AA's but do not want to lose to a non-scholie program. It is apparent that the Ivies are getting tired of losing to the Patriot League.(Princeton has now dropped Lehigh and Laf. and won't play us.) To insure better scheduling we should probably go partial scholie(40-45?) a la Wofford. But Patriot is firmly against scholies. So either we stay put with an unatractive OOC or we move up to A10. we could just abolish the damn thing and make everyone happy (NT)NDH14:38:08 03/01/05 Tue

I would schedule somewhat better 1AA opponents, or put more bluntly drop Albany, Marist, Duquense etc. and replace with Citadel, VMI (they are awful but do have name recognition), and a "directional" or two from the midwest. Wake Forest, UConn and Navy are out of the ?. We would get destroyed. Years ago we reneged on Navy and switched with Nova for Richmond. (NT)Jimbo6515:43:21 03/01/05 Tue
