Fordham players aren't "non-scholarship," since they receive generous aid that is only available to football players. In I-AA, only a handful of schools spend more on football scholarships than Fordham. Of course, the last time Army football played a PL representative was 2002, and they lost to lowly Holy Cross. PL and Ivy teams have been doing it for years (HC beat them three years ago)and will return to doing so in the very near future; they have approached PL and Ivy teams for future games. It would not be worth playing Army or Navy or any 1-A's while we're a need-based program. We'll get too banged up and it will affect our ability to compete against our league foes. And where would our "home" game against Army or Navy be played? Certainly not on Coffey Field. We would never have a true home game against them unless we built a real football stadium. Why get beat up by Army or Navy without a true home game and have it affect our ability to win league games? Unless we have full rides, it's a mistake to put the players at risk of injury and doesn't serve our alums well when we can't compete. When we go full scholarship 1-AA, then it becomes viable. It's doubtful that we'd ever have a home facility big enough to lure Army or Navy to Rose Hill. HC used to be able to schedule home-and-homes w/ Army b/b they have over 25,000 seats at Fitton Field. I don't recall that Lafayette or Colgate ever hosted Army but did play them regularly @ West Point. I would have no problem if we played them on the road occassionally w/o a reciprocal home game. Re: Pl and Ivy teams have been playing almost exclusively at Army since the 1960's. Only exceptions have been Penn in 1985 and Yale in the late 80's early 90's. I think HC may have hosted Army in the 80's and early 90s but they're the exception since they have one of the largest I-AA facilities in the country. Even BC played there (Flutie's last game in N. England was @ HC). (NT) -- bfg, 12:38:41 12/10/04 Fri
