Besides leading an organization with considerations for office as mentioned above to maintain a viable camaraderie based organization, several critical considerations are vital. We must have at least two officers of the board who are familiar with filing taxes, making sure our articles of incorporation and franchise tax application in the State of Texas is filed on time each year and that our treasurer is bonded. Failing to do any one of those requirements could be result in disasterous consequences. Another disasterous possibility is what happens to the VSPA if Don Poss is unable to maintain the website.( Years ago, a computer was purchased for Don to use as a backup for the site in the event he was unable to maintain the site. This was done to preclude intruding on his family without disrupting the website. ) All VSPA files/website material were to be backed up on that computer. Who would maintain the site and how much of the website is copyrighted to Don. This site has been and continues to be a labor of love for Don and money could never pay for the years of devotion and labor he has put into it. At this point, nobody wants to discuss what happens to the site, who maintains it, who owns the rights to change the format, charge for viewing, or who would take over. There needs to be serious discussions with Don as to what his wishes are for continuing projects and his advice as to who he thinks would be the best manager(S). As long as Van and Joyce manage the PX, all is good, but when they decide to pass the job along, the next manager(S) should be bonded.
