    Hello to all.

I just received a call from Larry Poss to let us know that Don and Larry's Mom passed away a few hours ago after fighting a long and courageous battle with cancer. Her four living sons and their families were with her after traveling across the world and our country to be by her side in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Funeral arrangements are pending. For the sake of the family, I will post them in the Restricted Area as soon as they are complete.

Your prayers for their mother and family are deeply appreciated by our brothers, Don and Larry.

My best to all of you.

Just for your information. The new VFW mag has a small item about VA claims. It says that there are 905,000 claims and appeals on backlog. with 737,000 of them unprocessed as of July 18 and 173,000 awaiting appeals. I guess we just have to sit and wait. I have been waiting 9 month's for my claim to be processed. As of now they owe me all the way back to April 2008 when the VA first found my cancer. So guys hang in there we might see some relief soon. The VA is adding about 1200 people to help with our claims. Jack The Old Cowboy

    Hello to all.

I talked to Don earlier today and he asked me to thank everyone for their kind thoughts and prayers for his Mom and family. He has read them all and found comfort in your words. Don knows that we are standing with him as he is with his Mom.

Don and his brothers all arrived safely and have been able to gather at his mother's side. Sadly, her systems are shutting down rapidly. They moved her to hospice care today and remain by her side.

Don will keep me posted or get on the bulletin board when he can. For now, he is thankful for all of your prayers.

My sincere thanks to all of you for standing with Don and Larry in their time of need. My best to all of you.

The Loss Of A Loved One

We will never know that exact moment in time
We won't know the place where it will happen
When you or a loved one will be called home

When someone was sick and had looked better
Then had suddenly taken a turn for the worse
And they left us forever with little warning

Sometimes when our loved ones had to leave us
We had some warning and were prepared for it
But many times we have had no warning at all

When they're sick you hope they'll have more time
You gather to comfort each other and pray for them
But sometimes God had taken them from us sooner

Though they wanted to remain with us they couldn't
And even though their will to live was still strong
Their bodies just couldn't fight off the illness

Though we had wanted them to remain here forever
We knew deep down that they couldn't stay here
And you didn't want them to suffer all that pain

We may never know when our time will finally come
So tell your loved ones just how much you love them
And try to live your lives to the fullest each day

Life is so very precious and we should remember that
Enjoy it to the fullest with your family and friends
And always remember to tell them you love them too

    Terry Sasek BT 68-69

Dedicated to all who have suffered
or are facing the pain of losing a
    loved one.

Saturday morning, under cloudy, gray skies, Eagle Chapter, Air Force Security Forces Association, gathered to wash OUR Wall. After introductions and a few words from the Park Ranger, I gave a brief history of OUR Wall and what it means to us. After the Pledge of Allegiance, Chaplain Jim Stastny led us in prayer before we began our task.

In addition to Eagle Chapter Members, there was also a group of former AP/SP/SF from Loring AFB, aka Loring Ramp Rats, and a group of Boy Scouts and their parents.

VSPA was represented by Mike Cowder, Ken Neal, Jim Stastny, Willie Squires and myself, all VSPA Life Members. Ken Neal traveled all the way from Los Angeles, just to participate. Loring Ramp Rats traveled from Michigan, Indiana, South Carolina and New York. The distances traveled was indeed a lesson for the young Boy Scouts about the bonds of Brotherhood and how we will never forget our Brothers and Sisters.

After washing OUR Wall, Loring RampRats placed two small rememberences for A2C George Bevich and A1C Bob Pascoe, two former Air Policemen, who are on Panels 9E and 13E.

As always, washing OUR Wall was a humbling experience and one that I hope to be able to do for years to come.

So many of you traveled long distances to spend just a short time to perform an honorable task. I feel so sorry (Nah) about driving for ten minutes, when we had people there from Los Angeles, Michigan, Indiana, New York, Maryland and South Carolina. That is true dedication. It was grewat to se old friends and make new ones. Thanks again to all.

With every death we are reminded of our own mortality but especially the death of such a well known person such as the late Senator.
It is my prayer that the nation considers what God's word tells us about life being brief at best down here and that we should be rich towards God. Man's praise is briefer still even by today's technology perhaps 3-5 days and that news cycle is over.
For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.
God has provided a Book, a savior, a finished work of redemption as a gift. He is nearer to us than the mouse on our key board and He loves sinners. Did you know that both Moses and David were guilty of murder yet they were forgiven and wrote much of the Bible. Sorry for the sermon but just got to yackin again. Have a great evening and week guys...:)

    Hello to all.

As many of you know, the 84 year-old mother of Don Poss has been extremely ill with cancer. She has been in failing health for quite some time. She was admitted to a hospital in Las Vegas last night because the cancer is inoperable and she is failing fast.

The family has been called together. While this is very hard for our brother Don, it is especially hard for our brother Veteran and Associate Member,Larry, because he had surgery this morning on his leg, ankle and foot (the second surgery in a month), and is not mobile. Don's brother Jerry, another police officer in the family, had surgery on his arm and is on the way to have the cast removed so he can drive to Vegas. Don's brother Ray is flying home from the Philippines.

When you have a chance, please pray for Don and his family so that they can gather safely in peace and strength to offer love to their Mother and Grandmother during what could be her final hours. We have offered prayers in the past and have no greater gift than to offer more prayers at this time to a wonderful family that believes very deeply and has supported all of us in our own time of need.

I will keep you posted regarding the Don and his family.

My best to all of you.

Don Hamilton requested his post regarding Ted Kennedy's death be removed due to negative remarks.

Ted Kennedy was a politician's politican, and a controversial U.S. Senator. We all know that, and we all know his story. Comments on his passing are not political statements and endorsements likely to cause the association problems with its 501(c) status. Nevertheless, he now stands before his final judgement, and I for one will let him pass in to oblivion without comment, but as there were so many responses to Don Hamilton's post, I wanted you to know why it was removed.

    Gents,

One thing, for me, that stands out in the memories of all the reunions, is the 'Last Man Standing Toast' Steve Gattis once made at the reception buffet dinner. You may recall, he displayed the sealed official Last Man Standing bottle, and said that it would be nice if those of us standing at the reunion could share that same beverage toast together. And we did. And it was a great feeling of camaraderie.

It would be great if we could share that toast again this year, as we remember not only those who have fallen, but the ten who shared that last toast, and whom we will not share another with this side of The Wall.

Back from vietnam in time to tip a legal cool one with Tommy my son on his 21st birthday today.

As soon as I finish my written thoughts and daily diary of the trip and figure out how to sort the pictures I will get it out.

The trip was interesting yet somewhat disappointing. Also experienced stronger emotions than I anticipated especially near the 051 bunker area where the battle for TSN TET '68 took place, and my friend Ric and I laid a wreath for all the fallen for both sides.

Saigon, Hue, Hoi An, Da Nang and Dong Ha are beautiful where tourists travel, but poor areas are unchanged except for TV and internet. The heat and humidity was as bad or worse than I remembered.

Happy to be back in the USA !

I was talking with my wife yesterday and she was talking about a new member to an organization she belongs to, and referred to this person as a "newbie".

That made me think of the rather unflattering term that for a new guy that was used in-country, which was "FNG". Then I remember we used to refer to new guys as "jeeps" as well.

Does that ring a bell with anyone? And, if so, what was the derivation? Where did the term come from?

Guess I have too much time on my hands when the thought process wanders in directions such as this! :)

    Any thoughts?

Katie passed away this evening around 10:30 PM. She was 13 yrs old. She was refusing food lately so I switched her to can food or table scraps so she would eat something. Today she slept a lot but tonight while we were out she must have had a stroke as she lay on the floor breathing but not responding. This went on for a few hours then she just took her last breath. She labored while breathing this evening. She did not appear to be in any pain. She just drifted away. I miss her already. I left the roomjust before she died. I guess I just didn't want to see her die. Strange but this never gets easy. Here I am nearly 60 years old and tore up over this border collie that recently retired from being a "Goose Chaser." working dog. This house is really gonna quiet now. Just thought I'd share this tonight. God Bless our troops and keep us safe.....

    Hello to all.

The research and proof updates are complete. I will be returning all research and proofs to the publishing company this week. The publisher will contact everyone who ordered a book to give them an estimated printing date. We will post that date as soon as we know.

Yes, we will have extra copies in the BX.

I sincerely appreciate your patience and effort to provide information. The process has been long and difficult, from those of you who faced old memories while crawling in attics or talking to ex-wives who had your boxes in the rafters, to extensive reading and research, all were completed with the commitment that this is OUR book and nobody knows better about who we are than the members who contributed bios, stories and photos. My sincere thanks to all of you.

The next step for me prior to mailing is to make a master copy of everything I have done. I bought a new printer last night so that I could make hardcopies of all proofs, my handwritten corrections in red, plus all research. The copying and printing will take a couple of days due to the volume of material that must be copied so that we will not lose anything when the CD's and hardcopy are mailed to the publisher. It is absolutely critical that we have a copy of all the work that has been done so that in the event of some computer disaster or postal problem, we will have a copy that will allow the final process to continue.

Again, my sincere thanks to everyone who helped in this endeavor, especially Don Poss for the volume of information he maintains on our website and in his files, to Don Graham for his patch and MPC collections plus his historical files, to Kelly Bateman who took over as Historian from Don Graham, to Phil Carroll for his faithful writing, to Bill Cummings and Monte Moore for K-9 information, to Pete Villarreal of Safeside for historical information, and to all of you who contributed scanned information, articles and memorabilia.

    My best to you.

The program had treated 114 cancer patients before it was halted when the problem surfaced in 2008.

Steve here is a poem I wrote last year. I was talking to 3 guys at a small fair we have here in Ohio. I stated that I had been in vietnam in the Air Force. Smiles came on two of thier faces and one said took the easy out did you. I did not bother to explain to them what I really thought of them and their remarks. I just thanksed them for being in the army and I left. After I returned home I wrote this poem. Jack the Old Cowboy

    The Oath

We have all seen the smiles heard the laugh
When we proclaim the Air Force our chosen path
No combat infantryman badge do we wear
But in that terrible Vietnam war we were there

Just ask the 111 brave Security Policemen lost
Giving their all with the supreme cost
Security Policemen combat trained to be the best
Manning our posts guarding it all while others rest

Following the book applying all our training
Walking the fences of war hardly complaining
Young and Old men chosen to protect
To all kinds of hazards we were subject

The flying forces placed with us their trust
Knowing we would fight and die if we must
Carried away on the currents of war
Honoring the solemn oath we swore

We wear our badge of courage in our hearts
No matter what others believe we did our part
To protect from harm and keep safe
Our country the Grand Old United States

We are making plans to bring our rig down to the reunion and begin our 'snowbirding' plans from there. Just wondering if anyone in the local area could recommend any good parks in the general area (30-40 miles). The Trailer Life book shows a bunch of parks in a town called Casa Grande but I've never been through there and would appriwciate any advice. We want to stay for at least the entire month of October and check out the sights. We are going to stay at the hotel during the reunion so it does not need to be close by.

    Gents:

It’s been a long time since I walked out of a movie because it stunk worse than Mamasan’s clothes washing-water.

I was hoping to see a good action movie along the line of “Independence Day” and thought “District 9” might fill that bill. So very wrong! You might like the movie if you like events from the point of view of a drooling milk-sop liberal as portrayed by today's drooling milk-sop left-wing media types -- I don’t, and I didn’t like the movie. Every other word is the F-bomb, and in case you missed that, there are sub-titles spelling out the F-bomb for you in BOLD letters.

"District 9" is without a coherent plot. There are no interaction between actors/characters. Even the nasty marooned space aliens want to leave Earth (and the theatre)! There simply is no reason to go and see the film. It is presented entirely from a media newscast viewpoint of those events, and worse yet, seen through the eyes of the news camera pointed at talking media-heads who are definitely a C-rated News-Team.

I am not sure if the film was foreign made, but it certainly comes off at that low level of quality and feeling (perhaps if it were filmed in black-and-white it would have had a more artsy-trashy appeal?).

I do NOT recommend going to see “District 9”. I do NOT recommend renting the DVD (it will probably be available in a week or two). And no, I still do NOT recommend reusing Mamasan’s clothes washing-water. Thumbs definitely Down.

As we age, the colonoscopy exam becomes a more important part of our physical exams. They are not as big a deal as many people think, and they do save lives. I am required to get one about every two years because I have ulcerative colitis.

Just a quick story about my first one. I was extremely nervous when I was escorted into a darkened room which had a closed circuit "TV" set. The doctors used the TV to monitor and examine the colon as they progressed. The Demerol shot they gave me was GREAT! I was awake during the whole procedure. Doctor had me lay on my left side, facing a wall. They removed about a dozen polyps and I could see the whole thing. After awhile, I asked the doctor who was pushing the lighted tube through my colon if he was near the end of the procedure. He said simply, "Hold your mouth open and when you see a light on the wall over there, we will be at the end". Cracked me up, laughing! Then said "Look! If you are going to keep laughing, we'll never get through this". My advise is to get a Colonoscopy if for nothing else than peace of mind. It can save your life!

One of our pet dogs passed away last week. It got me thinking of another dog I had in Vietnam for just a couple months named King..

    The King and I
(One of my Wardogs in Vietnam)

The King and I were a Team when I was young.
I volunteered to work for law enforcement when I became short back then because I thought it'd be fun.
After all how hard could it be walking around outside the Clubs,
The post office, women's housing and the pubs.
It's got to be better than walking around bunkers and wire, dodging the enemy,
Making sweeps with Wardog and getting shot at, it may seem.
Anyway back then the King and I were a Team.
King was huge and pretty I might say.
And we were the talk at night around the clubs at Cam Rahn Bay.
Many fights stopped as we simply pulled up in the jeep or walked by.
And yes the ladies all said hi.
As we strolled past their barracks several times a night.
Vietnam didn't have many American girls so it was quite a sight.
They reminded me of home and that this place was a dream
But anyway the King and I were a Team.
King was not allowed to leave Vietnam when America pulled out.
He was one of several thousand wardogs they wanted us to simply forget about.
Sometimes that place is still in my dreams.
Way back when I was young and the King and I were a Team.

Jerry Walker,Sam Lewis,Ed Narwid,Bruce Ross,Randy "Ramps" Stutler, Charles Penley,John Wetzel,Jim Payne and their better halves.

A fun time was had by all and it was a great way to get to meet and make new friends.
Hopefully this will not be the first and last get together for this group and that many others can join in the years to come.
War stories of course were told (Cant figure out how we all did not spend time in LBJ after listening to some of our stories Ha Ha).
Anyway it was fun and even though a Mini reunion is not a formal one like the National ones are it is very important as well to keep the fellowship and bond that we all share with eatch other and these mini reunions can help that way.

Unfortunatly I can not make the National reunion in Arizona but I do plan to be at the one next year at Lackland AFB as that is where it all started and for me it will be 45 years since I graduated the AP Tech School there.

  • Why God Created Children -- John Lochte LM#556 (Had to share this), Fri, Aug 14 2009, 5:49:01 PDT (CSC-CHD-FCH-3-CGEN-i-pub.amer.csc.com/20.137.18.53)
WHY GOD CREATED CHILDREN (AND IN THE PROCESS GRANDCHILDREN)

To those of us who have children in our lives, whether they are our own, grandchildren,
nieces, nephews, or students here is something to make you chuckle.

Whenever your children are out of control, you can take comfort from the thought that
even God's omnipotence did not extend to His own children.

After creating heaven and earth, God created Adam and Eve.
And the first thing he said was "DON'T !

    "Don't what? Adam replied.
"Don't eat the forbidden fruit. God said.
"Forbidden fruit? We have forbidden fruit?
Hey Eve, we have forbidden fruit!

    "No Way!"
    "Yes Way!"
"Do NOT eat the fruit!" said God.

    "Why?"
"Because I am your Father and I said so!

God replied, wondering why He hadn't stopped
    creation after making the elephants.
    A few minutes later,
God saw His children having an apple break
    and He was ticked!
"Didn't I tell you not to eat the fruit? God asked.

    "Uh huh," Adam replied.
"Then why did you?" said the Father.

    "I don't know," said Eve.
    "She started it!”, Adam said.
    "Did not!” "
    Did too ! "
    "DID NOT ! "
Having had it with the two of them,
God's punishment was that Adam and Eve
should have children of their own.
Thus the pattern was set and it has never changed.

BUT THERE IS REASSURANCE IN THE STORY !
If you have persistently and lovingly tried to give children wisdom and they haven't taken it,
    don't be hard on yourself.
If God had trouble raising children,
what makes you think it would be
a piece of cake for you ?
    THINGS TO THINK ABOUT !

    1. You spend the first two years of their life
teaching them to walk and talk. Then you spend
the next sixteen telling them to sit down and shut up.

    2. Grandchildren are God's reward
for not killing your own children.

    3. Mothers of teens now know why
    some animals eat their young.

    4. Children seldom misquote you.

    In fact,
they usually repeat word for word
    what you shouldn't have said.

    5. The main purpose of holding children's parties
is to remind yourself that there are children
    more awful than your own.

    6. We childproofed our homes,
but they are still getting in.

    ADVICE FOR THE DAY:

    Be nice to your kids.
    They will choose your
    nursing home one day.

    AND FINALLY:

IF YOU ! HAVE A LOT OF TENSION
    AND YOU GET A HEADACHE,
    DO WHAT IT SAYS
    ON THE ASPIRIN BOTTLE:

    "TAKE TWO ASPIRIN"
    AND "KEEP AWAY FROM CHILDREN"!!!!!

    Quick,
send this on to ten people
    within the next five minutes.

Nothing will happen if you don't,
    but if you do,
    ten people will be laughing

After looking at the new Phu Cat photos, I am jealous of my brothers who served at Phu Cat AB and Combat Resort. No wonder we all catch heck from our sister services. Like, as I tell my Marine bros, don't blame me cause we had ice cream. Hell, we didn't get pizza 'til the month before I left, and there was no way I was gonna wait on that line. Buff burgers were good enough for me. Hawk
