Subject: Next DAV National Commander

JOE PARSETICH an alumnus of the 377th Security Police Squadron, was elected on 8/9/22 as National Commander of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) for 2022-2023. Hopefully, some of our 377th troops might remember him.

Commander Parsetich joined the Air Force early in 1968 and requested an assignment to Vietnam. He was stationed at Tan Son Nhut Air Force Base, Vietnam from 1968 to 1969, with the 377th Security Police Squadron. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1972.

He served on DAV's National Executive Committee for the 14th District from 2014 to 2016. He has been a Department Service Officer since 2009 and is a past DAV Department of Montana commander. He was named Volunteer of the Quarter by the Department of Veterans Affairs in 2010. "The Black Eagle - Assiniboine Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution,” named him "Outstanding Veteran Volunteer" for 2017. On June 19, 2018, the Marine Corps League in Great Falls, Montana, awarded him the "Distinguished Citizen Award". He was the first "non-Marine" to ever receive this honor from the League and was told that it is the highest State honor that the League can award on the State-level.

Joe was appointed by Secretary of Veterans Affairs, Dr. David Shulkin, to the Veterans Rural Health Advisory Committee in 2017, and continues to serve-in that capacity under VA Secretary Denis Richard McDonough. He was the host of: "On Point-Veterans Talk Radio" on Montana Public Radio 89.9 FM KGPR in Great Falls.

Additionally, he had served as the mentor coordinator and mentor for the Veterans Treatment Court, in Great Falls, Montana, since 2013, and has had more than fifty of his veterans graduate the 14-month-program and successfully reintegrate back into society.

Parsetich had also served on the following executive Committees: the USS Montana Steering Committee, a "Virginia-class submarine", which was Christened on September 12th, 2020, and will be commissioned in late 2021, the "Cascade County Suicide Prevention Committee" and the "Montana Joint Community Forces Committee".

Parsetich and his wife, Meg, reside in Great Falls, Montana. Between them they have seven children, three foster children, 32 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
