Why do you want to Remember?
Vietnam was so long ago.
Why do you band together at reunions?
Vietnam— I hate it so.
Why celebrate that Wall in D.C.?
No one can read all the names.

I wish I had never gone to Vietnam.
I’ll never go back again.

Why do you want to remember,
things I can’t forget?
That blight upon my soul—
the whip that lashes my dreams.

Why do you want to remember
their names? Those intrusive
slaps through my day.
Agent Orange took my child,
an unjust tale of woe.
Why can’t I forget it all? and
take the easy way out.

Why do you want to Remember?
Vietnam was so long ago.
