Subject: Final Guardmount For Lew Goldberg

Hello to all.

I am deeply saddened to report that Aaron Lew Goldberg, Life Member #150, passed away this morning at his home in Middleton, Wisconsin. He served at Binh Thuy Air Base, Vietnam in 1968-69. Lew was 81 years old and would have been 82 on January 7th.

Lew’s granddaughter, Shelby Starke, contacted the VSPA Sisterhood President, Sheila Cain, and me today to give us the news that Lew had stood his final Guardmount at home after being ill over Christmas and the New Year. The family is in touch with a funeral home in Wisconsin where they will meet privately like they did last year for his wife Scotti when she passed away. Lew will be interred in South Dakota with Scotti. No other services are planned at this time.

For those of you who never met Lew, he and Scotti attended our reunions together for many many years. The last several years they brought Shelby along with them so that she could experience the love of our brotherhood and sisterhood. Shelby works in law enforcement and immediately formed bonds with the VSPA that will last a lifetime, first volunteering to suit-up and run from a military working dog during a demo. Lew and Scotti were so proud of her. Lew was our first coordinator for the Defenders who were stationed at Binh Thuy Air Base. He found many of our members from Binh Thuy, made sure that they knew about the VSPA and always made certain that they had reunion information. He also coordinated 632nd Security Police Squadron dinners for his Binh Thuy brothers while at the reunion. He loved to talk about baseball and the autographs that he had collected. He also shared stories of his career that started in 1956 with Air Police training at Parks AFB, California. He served in Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Vietnam, New Mexico, Wisconsin, Alaska and South Dakota, eventually retiring as a Tech Sergeant in Washington, D.C. in 1976.

Stories and comments about Lew and Scotti would be appreciated by Shelby on Facebook and/or the VSPA Bulletin Board. She sends her love to all of you with thanks for all of the wonderful notes and comments sent to Lew after Scotti passed away. They meant so much to her and her Grandpa, Lew.

In brotherhood and fond memories of Lew, I send my best to all of you.

Steve
