Subject: Final Guardmount for Ed Cottrell

Hello to all.

I am deeply saddened to report that Ed Cottrell, Life Member #222, passed away this morning at McAllen Medical Center in McAllen, Texas. Ed served at Binh Thuy Air Base, Vietnam, in 1965-66 as a K9 Handler with Sentry Dog Fritz. He and Fritz were part of Operation Top Dog 45. Ed was 74 years old and had attended several of our reunions. He worked on the Veterans Memorial in McAllen, Texas, and loved to talk about Fritz with his Binh Thuy buddies and fellow K9 handlers.

Ed’s son called VSPA Life Member and K9 Handler, John Risse, to let him know that Ed had stood his final Guardmount this morning. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 6, 2019 at Funeraria Del Angel, Chapel of Remembrance in Mission, Texas from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Funeral mass will be held on Monday, January 7, 2019 at 12:30 pm at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Mission. Burial will follow at the Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission, Texas.

In brotherhood and fond memories of Ed, I send my best to all of you.

Steve
