In reply to: Bruce 's message, "Re: National Vietnam War Veterans Day" on Sat, Mar 23 2019, 14:57:03 PDT

My post spoke to the manner with which we remember veterans who did not return by making the point that we should respect the diversity of views by not presuming some particular religious belief. It was respectful, accurate, timely and completely appropriate. It is a fact that this has not yet become the universal practice. I advocate for this because it is the right thing to do. Remembrances have been historically, and continue to be routinely dominated by religious language and iconography rarely recognizing the many who do not or did not subscribe to the favored religions.

Asking for this respect asks no more than you swore an oath to give. Remember the part of your oath where you swore to "bear true faith and allegiance to the" Constitution? Opposing equal consideration for diverse religious views is most definitely NOT bearing "true faith and allegiance" to our Constitution.

It is remarkable Bruce that every sentence in your response to my post is flat wrong.

I am not "disrespecting others over this insistent Atheists theme" I am advocating for a not yet achieved fairness. What kind of person would oppose that and call it disrespect?

"The post had nothing to do with religion and shouldn't have even been addressed." Every remembrance I have seen contains religious language and iconography. It is dishonest to pretend otherwise. I am suggesting no more than insuring that the non-religious be respected by not dis-favoring them. It is a courtesy you should show to the fallen. That is not too much to ask unless you don't think they should be recognized.

"Find a bigger and better subject to opine upon, it's evident this Atheist bent your on is causing you personal stress, not good for your heart." So asking for recognition for a group you personally don't favor does not seem important? Could you be more self absorbed?

Fighting for fairness and individual rights is as important as anything I have ever done. It is enormously satisfying. It is said "find a job you love and you will never work a day in your life." Fighting for what is right is an elixir that keeps me fit and mentally healthy. I engage in this advocacy with great confidence and equanimity. But thank you so much for your quaint concern for my well being.

But really Bruce, try being a little more open minded about views that differ from your own. You will be a better man for it and you will feel proud to know you still keep your word (your oath).

"When you're accustomed to privilege, equality feels like oppression." Unknown
