Subject: Film Review: Men In Black: International

Decided to get out of house and go see a movie. Not much playing, but I liked the original Men In Black (Tommy Lee Jones, Will Smith, and Linda Fiorentino), so thought Men In Black: International (with Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, Kumail Nanjiani, Rebecca Ferguson) might be worth seeing at IMax.

Disappointing movie. The acting, wasn't, in that the actors mouthed their lines and seemingly wished they were anywhere else but in the film. Within ten minutes, I wished I was anywhere else (having a root-canal, contemplated joining my neighborhood watch colostomy-bag airburst clean up crew, getting my toe-nails manicured, asking the usher if this flight offered a pillow and blankie, wondering if I could remember where I parked the car). The bad-guys' "masks" were very good in design, but I found myself noting the costume quality of one of the characters utterly failed to make him look buffed, but did look like the poor-quality stuffed beanbag outfit the guy on the street corner twirling a sign was wearing. It was sort of funny, in that I almost smiled.

So, applying a line from one of Rush's audio spoofs (Tom Daschle) to this catastrophe, should your doc tell you that you have only two hours to live: go see Men In Black: International--it'll seem like a year. I'm fairly sure the dozen or so people in the theatre might agree, but bring your own pillow and blankie.

Parting advice to film Director F. Gary Gray: Add the laughing-audience soundtrack from an old M*A*S*H episode.
