First assignment after Tech School was an 18 month tour at Naha AB, Okinawa.
Somehow, the practice of using two inch tall sections of coffee cans to blouse our pants came into practice. Then, someone came up with the idea to use tape wrapped chain. The idea was to make us look sharp, the practical aspects of their use, be damned. Trying to run with those cans around our legs was ridiculous! The chains were a little better, but still flopped around when you had to run. At Binh Thuy we just used the olive green blousing bands. During my last year (at Homestead AFB) I said "forget all that crap" and just used the blousing bands. Being in Vietnam had the effect of causing me to focus on what was really important.
