In reply to: Aiden 's message, "HOW DO SOME DELEGATE'S GET HYPED?" on Monday, May 23, 02:53:52pm

Dear Aiden,

Miss Universe is not just a face, but culture, language, education, talent, prospects, concepts, initiation, creation and strong personality which are all out of Teenage Meriam capabilities.

It was wrong at the first place that she went to represent Egypt, so please be objective, as it is not a matter of courtsey, but a matter of a great country that should be represented well.

Safaa

The problem with MU is that it's one part intense preparation (which Canada certainly had) and one part luck. To become a FINALIST, you have to be very well prepared, or have connections (ie: Latvia was trained by Venezuela's Osmel Sousa). To actually WIN, it's entirely out of one's hands. Aiden put it well in his review; if the girl is not what they're looking for, then she won't win... regardless of how beautiful/intelligent/amazing she is. Look at Lebanon! She was one of the very best and didn't even crack the Top 15. Australia won last year because that was the desired market. MU was probably hoped that a suprise win would boost ratings. Not only that, but 2004 was really a year were sandy, wind-swept, surfer-chic was all the rage.

Now... who knows what Trump has in mind for Canada! Some say it's because of the Toronto building projects, but who cares?? I figure that the day Egypt wins, it'll be because of the US patching things up in the Middle-East, or trying to corner the next big market. Not that I'm complaining; it's just the way businesses work! That's why I was saying that it's best to concentrate on how well the delegate presents themselves to the world, and not whether they actually carry away the crown. :)
