Subject: After rewatching "Requiem"

A couple of things struck which I don't remember noticing or commenting on the first time around.
One was how at ease Mulder and Scully were with each other even before we got to the ubershippy scenes out in Oregon. At the very beginning of the ep, when they were in their office together, they were smiling and joking around. In some eps, this would have been noted as a shippy moment, but in this ep it was overshadowed by the even shippier stuff later on.
This leads me to a related item I've only really picked up while viewing the eps a second time around. Did Scully's attitude toward their work undergo a major shift in the positive direction immeditately after the events of "all things"? It sure seemed that way to me. Throughout most of season seven Scully whined (sorry; I like Scully a lot, but there's honestly no other word for it) to Mulder at the beginning of virtually every episode "Why are we here? What makes this an X-File?" She did it so frequently that Mulder even joked about it at the beginning of "Theef". However, in the last few eps of the season — like Je Souhaite and Requiem — she seemed downright eager to run off with Mulder to investigate mysterious happening in remote locales.
This episode also raises a couple of questions that I don't think have been answered:
1.) Was Teresa's baby a boy or a girl? (I'd been thinking it was a girl but, on rewatching the ep, I didn't hear any mention of the infant's gender. Did I just miss it?)
2.) With all the emphasis on the personal issues (Mulder abuducted! Scully pregnant! Krycek free! CSM dead! Skinner a believer!) It seems a rather important issue was left dangling. Did they close the X-Files or not? When the eighth season begins, is Scully going to still be in her basement office, or is she going to be out at Quantico again, as she was when they closed the X-Files during Season Two?
