If and it's a big IF Brian had already taken a sleeping pill (the black bomber), he may not have had the strength to resist too well. I take a sleeping sedative and I go out like a light. I've been known to sleep-walk under its influence so maybe Brian did have his strength after all even if he wasn't fully awake.
