- Question of opinion: Who's the most overrated comedian? -- Jim Bevan, 12:20:26 04/22/07 Sun
Since this is a comedy website, I wanted to get some insight into the minds of my fellow writers regarding comedians. I'm just curious to know which comedians you think got more fame and publicity than they deserved; the so-called "groundbreakers" and "innovators" who, in your opinion, aren't that funny.
I've got a couple that I consider to be vastly overrated: Bill Hicks, Andy Kaufman, Lenny Bruce, Dave Chappelle, and David Cross, to name those at the top of my list.

Thought I'd post this here just in case you're not going to answer any e-mails from me. Anyway, if I offended you in any way with my comments on how I thought comedians like Andy Kaufman and Bill Hicks are, in my opinion, not that funny and somewhat overrated, then I apologize. I did not mean to upset you or hurt your feelings.
I would just like to know, though, why you found those comments so offensive? I was not trying to demean you, or people who are fans of those comedians, or demean comedians in general. I was just expressing my personal opinion. Please tell me how this angered you.
Thank you, and I hope we can put this behind us.

- SNY Summer Mock Season 2007 -- Prateek S., 14:55:51 05/05/07 Sat
It's almost that time of the year... summer mock season. For those who don't know, during SNL's downtime we here at SNY are still generating episodes. We have 6 episodes scattered throughout the summer that feature mock hosts. There are always just some people who never got the chance to host the real show so we give them a chance. Anyways it's only a month away and I thought we should get the voting underway. I'll take over the tabulation this time if that's okay. And here are some ground rules...
*you may pick up to 10 people
*make sure to pick someone who has not mock hosted before Check the archives beforehand.
*former SNL castmembers are ineligible as are former SNL hosts
*if someone has made a cameo on SNL or SNY, then they're still eligible. and former SNL writers are okay as well
* cartoons and puppets are also ineligible; as cool as it sounds Homer Simpson cannot mock host
Those are some guidelines. If there are ties then there will be additional voting. All right then let's get it started!

Now that the season's over, it's time to make our picks for the best sketches of the season to put in our compilation show. I can tally the nominations this year again if no one minds.
Since we've had some new writers this season, I'll go over the rules for them. Pick your favorite sketches from the shows in the 2006-2007 season; from the premiere with Dane Cook in October to the finale with Zach Braff. Here's a link to the season's archives:
http://snlyou.jt.org/archives/06/2006.phtml
Select your favorite sketches, cold openings, monologues, even weekend update bits. Post them here or mail them to me at hurricanejbb@comcast.net so I can tally them up and submit them to Patrick. The sketches that get the most votes will appear in the compilation piece.
Oh, and of course, no selecting your own sketches.

I am feeling that the dateline to catch a predator people are dying to be made fun of. This show is on constantly now, and Americans dont need to be reminded any more to be scared shitless every moment of their lives, we have the news for that for us already.
So I was thinking a predator walks in, the girl comes out dressed to impress, and she just happens to be the hosts daughter. The host breakes it up and the girl freaks out for kicking all of her boyfriends out.
Then maybe the host jumps back on the web naked pretending to be his daughter and luring more people over for his daughter and such. And maybe he keeps telling his daughter to dress more and more skanky and to invite some of her young skanky girlfriends over as well and such...
Maybe its a bit on the edge, but Im sick of seeing the show and I think the host is loving it a little too much. And I hate how paranoid America is and the show does not help anything.
what do yall think...

A while back, I heard about a contest where fans could submit a line for Optimus Prime, and the winning line would be used in the movie.
So, here's my idea: we could all come up with our own lines of Optimus Prime dialogue that were rejected, and put them together into a sketch. Anyway, it's just a thought. What do you all think?

- The SNY Awards -- Matteo, 16:01:45 03/12/07 Mon
Awards **AWARDS** Ceremony (Awards!!) of Justin Timberlake SNY Episode
We open up to a lovely stage - huge award ceremony stage - all the trimmings of a big hollywood extravaganza.
Announcer: Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome our host for the evening, Micheal J. Fox!
{Out hobbles Micheal J. Fox to a thunderous applause from the 2500 or so people in attendance. He's shaking like a leaf. He waves his hand to acknowledge the applause, then stumbles and falls. He writhers on the ground, trying unsuccessfully to stand up. A frail old man who also happens to be an Elvis impersonater in full costume hobbles out and helps him up. Micheal J. Fox thanks him with a pat on the shoulder, then makes his way to the podium.}
Micheal J. Fox: I must have forgot to take my medication (pause)... It's an honour to be hosting the first ever Saturday Night You Ceremony. When I popped into the writer of this posts head as an idea, I felt honoured to be thought of. Hey, I need the work just like the next guy - who doesn't?
Ya know, I don't really know too, too much about SNY, except for what the writer of this post has told me about it, but it seems like a really good place to pretend you are a "for real" writer (the audience mildly laughs). No seriously, it's a great place - lots of talent - cept for that Lonergan guy (audience chuckles).....and that Reeces-Jennings guy.....is that what you get when you combine Reeces peanut butter cups with Peter Jennings? I guess it can't be, because that's funny (audience roars in delight as Camera pans to Mark Jennings Reese sitting at a table with Jerry Seinfeld and Jerry Lewis - he's laughing too and all excited to be included in this).
Now, before we get to our first award, lets take a look at our nominees.
{Just then MJF falls down and lays there. The mole man from The Simpsons and the dog from The Family Guy walk out with a stretcher and place MJF on it. They start carrying him away.}
The Dog: I think that's it for Micheal J. Fox tonight. So I guess I'll be hosting the rest of the show, even though I can't even remember my own name right now. Well, I've decided were not going to look at clips - we'll just get to our first award.
Our first award is "The Chris Farley Best Physical Humour Award." It will be presented by that giant aphrodite monster chick from the Pepto Bismal commercial - you know, the one that goes "Nausau, heartburn, indigestion, upset stomach, diarrhea", and there's all these monsters walking around destroying the town, and she's one of them. I like the giant fly too - and the giant Paul Bunion guy with the crazy face....man, that commercial is the best.
{Out walks that gorgeous monster lady, dressed in the same costume from the commercial. She has an award that looks like a cross between Chris Farley and Buddha.}
The Dog: And the winner is Jim Bevan for "Barack Obama vs. Maureen Dowd". {Cut to a clip of Barack Obama tossing a crumpled article into Maureen Dowds face.}
{Cut to a surprised Jim Bevan. Jack Nicolson shakes him and encourages him to go on up there and get his reward. Bevan goes up and is handed the award.
Jim Bevan: You look so much bigger in the commercial. {The amazon lady blushes} I'd like to thank Patrick for hosting this site, and I'd like to thank my cat for being there for me through the long and lonely, lonely nights, I'll just sit tight, in shadows of the night, and let it ring forever more. Oh, oh, telephone line, give me some time, I'm living in twilight. Oh, oh, telephone line, give me some time, I'm living in twilight - ELO. Thanks!
The Dog: Our next award is "Mark Mckinney Missed Oppurtunities, close but no cigar award." Oh, what the heck, we'll have the giant monster lady present this one too.
And it goes to Mark Jenning Reese II for Justin Timberlakes monologue.
{Cut to a clip of the Lance Bass Joke "His nickname was ass pirate" Shoulda been "We always used to think of him as a bit of an ass kisser, but now we know better; he was actually an ass raider."}
{Cut to MJR walking up to receive his reward. He takes the reward and hugs the lady.}
MJR: I wouldn't kick you out of bed even if you had diarrhea! Thanks for this crappy "award".
The Dog: The award for best site creater goes to Patrick Lonergan. Patrick couldn't be here tonight, so I'll accept it on his behalf. Your the best Patrick. Keep it up. The "Persistence pays off Award goes to" Mark Jenning Reese. He's becoming one of the finest writers this site has ever seen.
{Mark comes up to accept his reward}
MJR: Look, it's a little naked statue of Lorne Micheals - and no balls - it figures!
The Dog: And that concludes the show - I gotta go pee - I can't even remember my name, though it's on the tip of my tongue! Goodnight!
{MJR and the giant Aphrodite woman wave goodbye as the dog pees on Marks leg.}
{Sorry, I'll try to come up with some more rewards. Pretend this was just intermission.}
This was just an idea I had to try to spice things up at SNY, but I don't really have the motivation to churn these out. Sorry for it being so late.

What have I been up to all these years? Well I finished High school, then I learned how to make props and cool stuff like that, and I sort of became an artist/prop maker...and that's what I've been up to lately. Nothing much else, lol... But I wonder how you all are doing. I wonder if the same people still come around that were here when I was an active writer... *scratches head*

(Open with Forest standing on Homebase.)
Forest: Hi, I'm Forest Whittaker and I will be hosting Saturday Night You this weekend! Despite what you may think, I am comfortable doing comedy. See, I was in “Bloodsport” and if that wasn’t a funny movie then I don’t know what is.

- I don't want to seem pushy... -- Jim Bevan, 20:48:10 02/02/07 Fri
But I really would appreciate it if someone else besides Prateek and myself would review some of the shows. It's good to get feedback from other people, so we can better our sketch-writing skills. So again, I apologize for bringing this up for the umpteenth time, but some critiquing of past shows from other sources are much welcome, por favor.
Thank you.

- Idea for a monologue -- Jim Bevan, 11:17:07 01/18/07 Thu
I thought of this when I heard that Jeremy Piven is going to be playing a magician in a movie. I thought of a monologue where he tries to wow the audience with magic tricks he learned while doing the film. One that should be really promising is when he convinces Will Forte to catch a bullet with his teeth! Does this sound like a good premise?

- Not to sound like a broken record... -- Jim Bevan, 16:41:30 01/04/07 Thu
But the next show is just a week away, and I'm hoping that in that time maybe a few old shows will be reviewed. Again, I don't want to sound annoying, but the only people who've reviewed so far are Prateek and myself, and only a handful of shows were critiqued. I don't mind being the only person to review, but I'd like to see other writer's opinions on the sketches. And okay, I'd like to know what everyone else thinks of my pieces, what they like, what they dislike, where I can improve, ect.
Anyway, that's all I wanted to say. Can't wait to see what's in store for the next show.
