How old do you have to be so that people no longer feel the need to remind you that Italy is shaped like a boot? I mean, honestly, I think everyone knows it by now. There's no need to constantly bring it up to others.

I'll give you an example. In my humanities course, we were discussing Greek philosophers. Our professor passes out a map of the Mediterranean highlighting where these philosophers lived, where they did their work, ect. Now, this class is full of well-educated students ranging from ages 18-21, who know a considerable amount of geography. And yet, our professor, for God knows what reason, reminds us that Greece is near Italy, and that Italy is "the country shaped like a boot." Honestly, I thought "WTF, we all know what it's features are like!" And he said the same thing two weeks later!

Is it just one of those little things in life that's always going to happen, or will a time come when you no longer need to be reminded of it? I don't want to be sitting in the retirement home years down the road when my 70 year old roommate says he and the wife are going to Italy to celebrate their golden anniversary, and then slips in "you know, the country that's shaped like a boot." I think if that happened, I'd definitely ask them to pull the plug on me. Even if I wasn't plugged into anything. Because I don't want to hear that inane bit of preschool-age trivia any more in my life.
