Subject: David Duke is a malignant... gotcha! It's a review!
In reply to: Captain Cool Your Jets 's message, "Please be patient. Patrick has other priorities. He'll get to it soon." on 16:27:20 07/03/06 Mon

Seriously, who is that guy who keeps posting that David Duke thing over and over again. We all know the guy is an ass, it's not something that needs to be pointed out.

Anyway, glad to see the new show is up. Thanks Patrick. Now time for a long overdue review. Let's see if Amy's show gets as many critiquings as Colbert's did. Oh, and also, if anyone is getting the Weekend Update from the Colbert episode, just change "tupdate" to "uupdate" in the url. Now we can get started on the review.

Access Hollywood: You all really know that I'm not a fan of celebrity sketches, so I didn't really find this piece that appealing. Sorry.

Monologue: Quite nice. It was kind of expected that Amy would be suckered into talking long enough to lose the record, but still carried out well. Plus the way she was awarded for her feat and the Q&A session were pretty funny.

Marty's Vineyard: My week's meager contribution, aside from the northeastern flooding commentary in the Weekend Update. This was inspired by my father telling me about how some of his business partners with questionable hygeine and kindergarden-level brewing knowledge used to offer him homemade wine or moonshine. I was suprised to hear that moonshining still went on. Didn't that go out when the Depression ended?

Not Another Gay Cowboy Movie: Ehh, not a fan of Brokeback Mountain parodies either, so I couldn't really get into this.

20 Questions: This was a good "stupid partner on a game-show" sketch. It's been done before, but was carried out quite well with clever lines and killer reactions from the losing Katherine. Though I think it could have been carried out well without the use of celebrity partners, since I did catch a few celebrity parodies I've seen before.

Just Another Day for Al Franken: I'm sorry to say that this came off with more hostility than humor. A bunch of predictable Rush Limbaugh-bashing jokes that I couldn't really find funny. I hope you don't mind a suggestion, Mark, but perhaps you could try doing sketches that bash more obscure famous individuals rather than traditional celebrities and figures in pop-culture. I mean, it's been like an eternity since I've seen a good skit poking fun at Galileo or Ernest Hemmingway.

A Night to Forget: The forgotten sketch finally sees the light! As I said when you brought this up on the board after the last update, Prateek, this was very funny. Calvin is one of the most hilarious characters you've ever created; he has a lot of potential use for future sketches.

Clubbing Seals: It was okay, but I've seen jokes where a business or venture is wrongly attacked because of a poor naming decision (i.e., a car dealership that can't attract business because it's called "Lemon's") Sorry.

Billy Squire's Hooky Pooky: I didn't really go for this. As I said in my Al Franken commentary, there are other individuals throughout history that could be lampooned instead of one of the multitude of washed-up 80s pop stars.

Well, that's my input. I apologize if some of my critiquing came off as harsh; I don't mean to hurt anyone's feelings if I say I didn't like a sketch they wrote. Just trying to be honest and helpful, if I can. Have a good day, everyone, and let's get ourselves prepped for the next host, whomever it may be.
