Subject: Little Big Review
In reply to: Patrick Lonergan 's message, "REVIEWS: Dustin Hoffman 9/02/06" on 22:21:29 09/03/06 Sun

If anyone's confused about the title, Dustin was in a movie called "Little Big Man". But I guess nobody really cares about that little bit of trivia, so I might as well make an announcement. As of this moment, the character name of "Douche-cock McGee" is now free for public use. Anyone wants to use that name in a sketch, go ahead.

... okay, so it wasn't that big an announcement. I'll just review the show before slinking away in embarassment.

Monologue: This one didn't really have that much of an impact since I read Jason's "Marathon Man" sketch before this one was in. The premise was pretty much the same for both. It was okay, though.

Ned and the Doctor: I don't know why, but I found this a lot funnier than the first "Ned and the Doctor" piece. I guess metal hooks for hands can make anything comical. There were so many amusing visuals I would have loved to see acted out, and the dialogue was great. I especially liked Doctor Abromowitz's admission that he only had eleven patients, and the exploding phone at the end.

Actors Forum: This had a little too much celebrity-centered humor for my liking, sorry.

Grammy in the Truck: Didn't really fly with me. There were a few good moments (the styrofoam Twinkies, the encounter with the motorcycle gang), but the rest kind of fell flat. I didn't really find the banter between Michael and his grandmother that funny.

Father and Son: Together Forever: Again, this sketch didn't appeal to me. The dialogue seemed a little awkward at moments, and the topics of conversation tended to jump around a lot. Sorry.

Carrington School for the Gifted: I really liked this piece. Mr. Price's reactions after hearing how the students wanted to throw their lives away were great. Especially loved the elephant-dung cleaer and the guy who wants to be a bag lady. To be honest, if I saw kids squandering their talents like that, I'd probably want to run into traffic as well.

Bush Address: Another Bush-bashing sketch with pop-culture references... sorry, not my style.

White Trash Dramatic Theater: A little heavy on the white-trash stereotypes, I felt that bogged the sketch down.

Miss USA Pageant: Good pilot sketch from a newcomer. I always enjoy these "Topper"-style pieces when they're well executed, just watching each woman try to come up with a better story than the contestant who came before her. Ms. New York's, of course, was the best. Great job Alex, I hope we'll see more of your work soon.

Marathon Man: I'll admit I said in my promo I didn't want to see overdone Hoffman movie parodies, but this was okay. A little repetitive, but still kind of funny.

Well, that's the review. Oh, almost forgot...
