Subject: It’s a dud, it’s a Dane no, it’s the most overrated comic since Howie Mandel!
In reply to: Patrick Lonergan 's message, "REVIEWS: Dane Cook 9/30/06" on 22:11:39 09/30/06 Sat

Excuse my Dane Hating. Actually I really don’t hate him that much, but I just think there are tons of comics out there who can deliver way more than him. The media and SNL and fans just don’t want to give them a chance because they are pleased with their instant bit punches and rants about balls and penis.

By the way, Bob Saget rules as the foulest comedian out there right now. Good god he’s a crazy ass mofo. And hey NBC gave him a game show deal so whoopee. Okay excuse my rant, I’ve been overdosing on the “chocolate silk pies”, they are clearly in stock at my eatery(in joke for those read my sketch) Let’s get on with the review.

CO: I enjoy the backstage sketch once in awhile. I even wrote one back in summer of 2005. Keep in mind they are very hard to do, it can too inside and too forced at times. There were some parts I liked and some I didn’t. I liked the Parnell’s blood moment along with the comments about Dane Cook. The whole STD moment was funny for some reason I’m not used to laughing at herpes but I just did. I thought the jabs at Horatio were redundant along with Finesse not Kenan thing. But still overall a solid CO to start the season off with.

Monologue: This mono was all over the place. The “Brad and Matt interrupting” bit was a good part. You probably should have played with that more. I would have had Dane start to tell some jokes only to get interrupted by Brad and Matt and try to change the show Studio 60 style. The Rudy Giuliani thing went nowhere so yeah I would have just stuck with the Studio 60 thing.

Phony Call: Who knew a prank phone call could lead to so much trouble? Clint’s nervousness and overall character is very approachable. The sort of down on his luck guy that we all can relate to. The “rite of manhood lines” were hilarious. The penis-saur, penis-sore twist was very clever Jim. And of course the twist that his name was Dick Hertz was excellent. It flowed well top to bottom so good work. Although I probably would have had Will Forte play the loopy paleontologist.

WU: Wow, only 2 writers this week. There a great mix of jokes. My favorite jokes were the Sony batteries joke, the white meat breast tumor joke, and the Tom Hanks joke. The Drew Rosenhaus bit fell flat, too many sex jokes. The Lorne Michaels bit was okay. But I’d probably have to see it acted out to get the full effect. Seth Meyers commentary was a good idea but it was too short. I would have expanded upon it, and come up with some crazy reason as to why they use a full 3 part name.

Past and Present Bob: Time traveling in a sketch is my absolute favorite. I have yet to do one… actually I take that back. I did one with Ben Affleck/Queen Latifah back in 04. That said, it was a good idea and the dialogue flowed quite nicely. The ending was too abrupt however and a bit of a let down. The “oh he was high” ending is kind of anti-climatic in my opinion. Still good for a newcomer so great work.

Regis and Kelly: Eh this really didn’t appeal to me. Never did like SNL’s interpretation. The whole liquid spewing and humping Kelly didn’t go anywhere and gay Gellman jokes are a little stale in my book. Sorry.

That’s the show but PLEASE REVIEW MORE!!! We need more reviewers and writers. This site is a great internet comedy hub and I don’t want to see it lag behind due to less participation. Please write as much as you can and comment as much as you can. Any effort is much appreciated.

By the way for those who want the rest of October’s schedule here it is.
Oct. 14th- rerun SNY is off
Oct. 21st- John C. Reilly(Talledega Nights, The Aviator, Gangs of New York) w/My Chemical Romance
Oct. 28th- Hugh Laurie(“House” and some other British films) w/Beck

That’s all for this week folks. Take care.
