Agreed, the political humor will never beat out TDS/TCR. (In case you didn't know, Stephen Colbert and Steve Carell both used to write for SNL and were the voices of the Ambiguosly Gay Duo.)

They need to take advantage of the fact that they can write sketches about ANYTHING. While TDS has the news show theme, and TCR has the pundit show/"Stephen Colbert is the center of the universe" theme, anything that's okay with the FCC is fair game at SNL. I mean, Flying Circus (which is really the only sketch show I can pretend to know besides SNL) didn't do a lot of political or celebrity stuff. And I think most of what I've seen would pass FCC requirements.

And Dane Cook is not much of an impressionist. And he seems to know that. His Steve Irwin impression sounds half-Scottish.
