Subject: Jack Farrell's triumphant return to reviewing Part 1
In reply to: Patrick Lonergan 's message, "REVIEWS: Hilary Swank 02/19/05" on 17:51:35 02/19/05 Sat

Hey everybody like I promised here is my SNY review for the Hilary Swank show but first a bit of news…

Jack’s Headline News: As some of you may have heard in the chat early this week I promised to publish the next chapter of Live from Snlyou.jt.org its Saturday Night You and I will do so before the next show. If things go well it should be up before this weekend is over. Worst case scenario late next week

Now onto the review

Cold Opener- Truth is out There!- Mark Jennings Reese II

“Politicians, what a crazy breed”

I read through this sketch and I hate to say this to my sometimes writing partner Reese but I just didn’t like it. The sketch seemed way too short and some of the jokes just seemed to be too crass, granted something I am guilty of from time to time. Also another thing I would like to see in Mark’s sketches is cutting down on explaining what the sketch is about at the end of it, SNL does do that sometimes but its few and far between.

Monologue-Cash Car Star

“Paint the fence Daniel Son!”

This was an alright monologue here by Cash. I cant really say much about the rap song since I of course couldn’t hear it. Nice Karate Kid reference in the mono, I thought briefly about doing a karate kid sketch with her but thought no one would get the joke. Solid stuff here Cash, it didn’t knock me dead but solid.

Theodore on the Wall-Jason Dignard

“Look an interracial gay couple burning the American Flag”

This one gets my award for weirdest sketch of the week. I actually liked this idea but, no offense, I don’t think this would ever get on SNL. Its just too high concept, which is something I actually like, the trick is fitting it in with general audiences, it’s a hard thing to do as I have learned from doing stand up over the last month. Keep up the good work Dignard.

Boxey- JP Ragan

“Whats that Boxey, Timmy fell down the well AGAIN!”

Ah this one wins for my fav sketch of the week, also 2nd weirdest sketch of the week. There’s really not much I can say about this sketch other than just it being ridiculously funny, I was nearly dying. If you could find a way to make Boxey a recurring character
That would be awesome.

Gay Robot Monster- Me

“I am Torgo, I watch the place while the master is away”

Finally after 2 weeks of exclusive WU I finally wrote a sketch. Lately I have been watching Mystery Science Theater 3000 (great show by the way) where they watch cheesy, awful movies and make fun of them. I basically got this idea from the numerous bad movie trailers from the 1950’s and such. Some people might think that I have a Smigel- like Agenda with some of these gay sketches but honestly I just don’t see what the big deal is about the whole issue, henceforth when people start talking about it (especially when their information is incredibly inaccurate.) I find it funny. I am a weird guy I know.

Part 2 of the review coming soon.
