Ey! How you doin', you crazy homosexuals?!
... what? I gotta use this frequently if I want it to catch on as my trademark catchphrase. Ah, forget it.

Onto the topic at hand, it was about a year ago that I joined in the fun on this cool group, and once again I must say that I am very thankful for the opportunity I've been given. I've greatly matured as a comedy writer, made a lot of cool new friends (except for that Wes Zack guy), and had a good time overall. I look forward to spending many more seasons with the SNY crew. That being said, on to the reviews.

26th Presidential Debate - Admittedly, I'm all tapped out of laughter from the debate parodies they've had so far, so I wasn't going into this with too much enthusiasm, but I still found it somewhat enjoyable. IT reminded me of a sketch from the 02-03 season where Bush was fielding questions from non-news oriented magazines (like a mag for pineapple growers) The concept of having it broadcast online and needing to advertise for the webcast, plus another Kerry ketchup bribe, set the stage well. I also enjoyed seeing Bush take on a more aggressive stance and not have him portrayed as a childish buffoon, but still lacking somewhat in common sense. The questions were pretty good, I liked the Grand Theft auto comments and how they shut down any questions that had validity. The end was kind of a letdown, though, it had no solid closer. Just Bush pointing for a distraction, then uttering the opening line - sorry, but the humor dipped at that point. Still good overall, though.

Monologue: I love audience-interaction monologues, and this was one of the best I've read in quite some time. It's just so amusing to see how wierd, stupid, or perverted the characters in the audience are, and Ryan created another batch of writers/performers portraying fans that took the cake in absurdity. Best line had to be the guy bitching when he heard there won't be a Titanic sequel, second best was her showing her ta-ta's to quell the loudmouth. Pity we couldn't see it.

12.87 Kilometers - Eminem and "8-Mile" are not two of my favorite elements of pop culture. Truth be told, I can't stand Marshall Mathers, even when parodied. This sketch fell flat with an uniteresting premise (wow, I have a twin?!) and "C-Turtle" didn't really add much to the dialogue. The only really interesting aspect I found was the thought of metric conversion confusing everyone. It had promise, but unfortunately went nowhere. One nagging question remains - Where was Councilman Braddock? He was mentioned in the credits, but never appeared in the skit. I suppose it was probably a fluke, he was probably written out of the final draft but his character was still left in the credits.

Speeding Ticket: I can't access it, I think the link is broken, but I'd love to get a chance to read it.

Andy Griffith as President. Well Gaw-lee, this was funny! Mark let me see this through e-mail, and though I've never watched the Andy Griffith show, I still found this parody enjoyable. His down-home good nature and naivete leading him to overlook matters of national security was quaint and amusing, much like they say his show was. The Ron Howard metahumor was enjoyable, and this could spark a potential for a whole new sketch series (What if Gomez Addams was President? What if Cliff Clavin was President?) It's got infinite possiblities.

Confessions of a Demented Mind: This was great, the jokes were quick and funny, the ending a surprising twist, the daughter's reactions were priceless. Probably the best of the night.

Anti-Kerry Ad: Another good commercial parody, short and sweet. Again, this could be expanded on; why not criticize kerry for the movies he likes (Glitter, Moulin Rouge, Freddy got Fingered). Very nice.

MTV Election Special: Meh, I wasn't too fond of this one. Musical and MTV parodies don't greatly appeal to me, and when it's written and can't be heard, that kind of diminishes the quality. Plus, the John Kerry parody jokes used here are getting a little cliche.

Anti-Bush Ad: This didn't appeal to me as much as the anti-Kerry ad did (I'm not showing my political bias, am I?) My main beef with the premise of this parody ad is that it's founded on a falsehood perpetrated by the media: President Bush is only opposed to EMBRYONIC stem cell research, not the other forms of stem-cell research. Plus, dragging Christopher Reeve in was a little cold. The Adam West and Lynda Carter bits did have some saving grace, but not enough.

Revenge of the Bambino: Another piece of absurdist enjoyment. The Red Sox won and signaled Armageddon, what a unique way to look at a "what-if" scenario. Seth's raving and enthusiasim were too much, and again, I wish I could have seen this rather than just read it.

Well, that's my review. Thankfully we all have a week's break to work on our new material. Good luck to all of you, and don't forget to get out and vote on November 2nd. Whether you're voting for Bush, Kerry, or whomever, make sure your voice is heard.
