Subject: The Best of Tom Hanks

I missed chat last night, but I was wondering what everyone thought about the Best of Tom Hanks special Saturday night? I haven't seen much discussion on the special anywhere on the internet, quite a disappointment when SNL takes the time to air funny sketches for a change.

Two sketches that I thought should have been included were Mr. Belvedere Fan Club, and Bean Cafe. Almost everything else was spot-on, except that Hanks' role was considerably marginal in the Wayne's World sketch (which already appeared on Best of Mike Myers, if I'm not mistaken). I also thought Hanks' cameo on WU was a pointless inclusion, especially since he spoke not a line. That looked more like a nod to Tina Fey than Hanks, who without a doubt was a pivotal host during the Lovitz-Hartman years (his most recent hosting in 1996 was a bad episode considering how great that season became in the long-run). All in all, a great collection of sketches, which perhaps could have been further highlighted by a brief "impressions" reel. Who wouldn't have liked to see his Dean Martin singing about those "cho-based molecules" once more!
