You wrote your sketch directly into the e-mail, and therefore have no copy of the sketch on your hard drive? This alarms me for several reasons:

1. The inability to maintain a "Sent" folder.

2. The ease with which things can be copied/saved on computers - we've come a long way from the times of type-written, copiless manuscripts. To not take advantage of this fact is, well, idiotic.

3. The fact that you wrote it directly into an e-mail signifies that you probably put less effort and thought into the sketch as there is less opportunity for revising. Most authors here write in MS Word or Notepad and then submit a final draft as the update nears.

4. Legal reasons. Should any complication arise where you need to prove your work is your work, if you have no copy, you simply can't. Guess who just got suckered?

I really feel for you man, it's gotta suck to be repeatedly short-changed, especially when the site isn't at it's peak of material (summer draws less people). Still, to not save your work is just silly. You can get burned big-time.
