But I feel that the point of Saturday Night Live is that it's not supposed to be professional. First of all, it's live, pressure that movie and television actors don't usually have to deal with. (Ever seen sitcom outtakes? I think the reason Debra Messing has never hosted SNL because she can't seem to keep a straight face, even after like 7 takes..)

Even for stage actors, if they mess up, only one audience sees it. On SNL, you screw up, and that's what everyone saw. The end. (Unless they sub the dress rehearsal version into the rerun...but that's another can of worms.)

Also, the cast isn't supposed to be very professional. SNL was originally called "Not Ready For Primetime Players." They're supposed to be comedians or comic actors with the potential to be real pros one day. (I think there was one period in SNL history where they purposely hired a cast of established professional comedians, because the show had hit a low spot.)

That said, Jimmy and Horatio do break character a lot, and they've been on the show for quite awhile. (If Jimmy's staying on the show, he needs to take time off this summer instead of shooting movies. He's clearly lost his focus. No pun intended.) I think that besides the "lovahs" sketch in the hot tub, that's the only other time I've seen Rachel crack.
