Mmm - global warming isnt QUITE a con - we are doing damage...however, on the "fringes" of science (on that fringe because the global warming folk have put them there) there is some strong evidence that we are actually heading for another ice age. Oh but the earth has been recording temperatures for millions of years, in ice layers, in tree rings, etc. and no the earth may have had periods of similar warming but Man and this civilization has not. - As recently as late 1800s, folk were ice skating on the Thames - in London, no less, during the most notoriously polluted periods for that fine city. In the desert, not but a few hundred miles from where you live, spoot, lies the remains of a once thriving community that relied on agriculture in the surrounding area. There is growing evidence that there was once a vast and complex civilization living in what is now the Brazilian rainforest - apparently was once a much more varied landscape. While we should be concerned about the relatively short-term impacts of our sojourn on this planet, Gaia has endured and thrived under mush worse than we can do, barring Dr. Strangelove events. Fond hope is that we will soon find a way to plant our flag on another globe, and not have all oour eggs in one planetary basket.         Yes, Renaissance covered the Tudors entirely...Interregnum was Charles I (the Unfortunate), Cromwell and that lot...Purcell was more in the period after the Glorious Revolution, where William of Orange was invited to become King of England, once everyone got thoroughly fed up with the Stuarts trying to re-establish Rome as the Head of the Church in England. - Yes from the perspective of eons the damage we do is mimimal. But the thing about global warming is that it is really just the tip of the iceberg. There is also the death of the ocean biosphere, the hermaphrodization of all sorts of animals, a thousand instances of ecologies breaking down, all because we only think linear, not circular. We think only of a goal, corporate growth, energy production, winning election, etc. and focus all our work on achieving that goal, forgetting that once the goal is met, we must live with the consequences of our efforts.
