• He supposed that the best way to keep from getting his ass kicked by a hostile brother was to try and time his visits to be when they weren't there, and so far he had been pretty lucky. He'd cleared the coast with the nurses at the nursing station this time, making sure she was alone - they all knew him by name now, and he was regularly bringing in boxes of muffins for them - they were doing a great job with Lacey and soon she'd be able to get out. He poked his head in the door of her room, carrying yet another of her favorite foods with him, and a magazine - ever out to please her, and spoke to her. "Hey you.." • She was bored out of her mind in here, and no one like being stuck in hospitals- but she never complained or grouched about it. She grinned a little as she saw him in the doorway, arching a brow to him softly "Hey " She had been thankful that there hadn;t been a time since that once that both Ryan and her brothers had been here, she'd woken up and noticed the tension immediately- it was so think she could have cut through it. He said as he let himself into the room, and headed across the floor towards her bed, resisting the urge to look in closets and under the bed for her brothers in case they were hiding somewhere, waiting to ambush him... how this hospital stay had ended up to be his fault directly, he wasn't sure.. "I brought distractions." He held out a box of Maria's cookies and the magazine in front of him and set them on her bedside table. "How are you? • She grinned softly at the mention of Maria's cookies and reached out for them "Aw... home made cookies... thats so sweet of her... tell her I said thank you." She looked up at him and smiled gently "Thanks for the distractions... I'm feeling a lot better... though I'm asleep most of the time cos of the drugs... It'll be good to get home though... I'm not sure I'll ever be allowed to leave home again- but it will be good to get out of here" She played, rolling her eyes a little. • He nodded a little bit at that, helping her get a cookie out of the box - she had an arm that was more or less out of comission because of the collarbone break. "Well, Spencer will want to see you so we'll have to sneak you out of the house." He grinned a little bit, thinking of all the times he'd waited around the corner from their apartment for her to come out - the early days of their relationship, when he'd given her a phone so he could keep in touch with her, that sort of thing. • She laughed gently at that and took the cookie from him with her one good arm, bringing it to her lips and nibbling at hit, chewing with a soft sound of delight. All she;d eaten in days was hospital food- this tasted so good. "You mom came and saw me early with news about Spencer... she thinks he;s gonna be just fine." • He nodded a bit at that, settling into the chair beside the bed, a place that he had taken up residence in as much as he could. "I think he'll be good as new in a few months... he told me so." He nodded, knowingly. "You won't believe me, but I have been out to see him everyday, and even I can see the improvement. But I do think he misses you." He nodded a little and then pulled out a shot he'd snapped this morning of Spencer's head hung out over the stall door, looking bright but a little lonely, and handed it over to her. • She grinned at that, she really appreciated that he would do that for her. She looked at the picture and felt tears prickle in her blue eyes, blinking heavily as she glanced down. She felt awful... so guilty for what she had allowed to happen to him. • "Well, scratches yes, but I'm staying away from the belly. That's your area of expertise." He wasn't completely dumb when it came to horses but he wasn't the most experienced so most of the visits had been from the other side of his stall door, scratching his head and neck. He could hear the thick sound of her voice and knew she could feel tears coming - something he had become in tune to during their time together. • "Now Pablo I haven't visited much," He admitted - he left the stallion for his mother and the stable hands - who had a great rapport with him. "I don't think they've been riding him - waiting for you to give instruction, I guess, but I do see them working him on the lunge often." He tipped his head to get a look at her, reaching out to put a hand on her arm lightly. "You're not being pathetic, you're worried, and you had rights to be, but he's going to be fine." • "But she takes your opinion pretty seriously, I think." He nodded - he loved the way that she and his mother got along - it made things non stressful for him in a big way - he had dated girls that his mother disliked and his life had been difficult.. not that he was dating Lacey now... "You'll just have to give them the go ahead and he'll be completely trained and on form for you to ride when you're up to riding again." He smiled a little bit at the thought - he knew she was going to be very eager to get back to riding, and she may push herself more than she should. "She wants you to be involved though." • Lacey smiled faintly at that. She didn;t want to snap her fingers and have another perfect horse to ride- she wanted to do it herself- but she knew that Pablo wasn;t hers and that it wasn;t her call to make- and that she was lucky even to just be allowed to ride him at all. "I know she does." She cared a lot about Eliza's oppinion too- and valued all her help and advise. • He raised a brow at her request and frowned. "I knew I was forgetting something when I was at the grocery store getting that magazine... I don't, but... one sec." He rose from his chair, stuffing a cookie in his mouth as he left the room, heading up the hall in search of some milk.. he finally found his treasure in one of the family lobbies in a vending machine. He'd always thought that milk from a vending machine was pretty sketchy, but for Lacey he was willing to brave it. He acquired the small carton of milk and headed back down the hall, gone about five minutes in total before he popped back into the room. "Look what I found." • He took a tentative taste of the milk and then handed it on to her - fine of course. Tipping his head a bit, he looked down at her and shook his head - there were so many more things more difficult and dangerous he'd do for her than taste sour milk, and he wished she knew it or at least would acknowledge it and they could be together, like they were meant to be. "Of course I'd taste sour milk for you, silly. What kind of a friend would I be if I didn't? You wouldn't want to be hurt and throwing up, and if you were, I would feel wholly responsible." • Her gaze flickered over his, grinning softly as she took the carton of milk. It was strange to hear him refer to himself as a 'friend' and it kind of hurt more than the broken collarbone- but she didn;t let it show. She still loved him, her feelings for him hadn;t changed, and she wasn't doing a good job of proving that she could be a whole person without him...because what if she couldn't? What if he really was her soul mate, a part of her- what if they were supposed to be together? "Yeah that wouldn't be good at all..." • "Oh", she said nodded her head a little- she had half hoped for him to tell her they weren't together because he didn;t want to be with her, the fact that she just hadn;t been around meant that it was an option. • She lifted her bright gaze back upto his cautiously, watching him as he told her it wasn;t okay. Her teeth captured her lower lip and she dropped her gaze back down as he told her he hadn;t been able to get his mind of her, her eyes tearing up a little as she released her lip and listened to him carry on. He had done a good job of convincing her otherwise, and now she was tot he point where she didn;t know if she knew anything any more. He'd told her to leave his house when she'd told him about Harvey and he hadn;t spoken to her since that day- how was she supposed to know he felt anything but hate for her? • She lowered her gaze again and closed her eyes a moment against the tears as he made her feel even worse, letting out a soft sigh and resting her head back in the pillows. She hadn't wanted to hurt him... she had just wanted to see if doing what he suggested changed how she felt about him... and it hadn;t. "I'm sorry I hurt you... thats not why I did it..." • He could hear the tears in her voice again - he hadn't really accomplished what he'd set out to do - cheer her up - had he? He frowned and didn't hesitate a moment when she reached out for his fingers. "It's my fault that I was sending out mixed signals... I was telling you to do things that my heart was screaming at you not to do... " He leaned over her to brush some of the hair that had escaped from her braids away from her eyes. • She narrowed her eyes at him playfully as he teased her, not able to make out if he was playing or not- at first she was sure he was but as he went on she wasn;t so convinced "Marry you? The idea of marraige was strange- but not terrifying... • He couldn't speak for a moment, just shake his head vigorously. No, he wasn't joking. He gave her hand another squeeze and met her eyes. "No, I'm not playing.. I really mean it, Lace." • Her eyes widened a little as she watched him, hearing his confirmation over and over in her head before a grin spread out on her lips "Okay". She arched her brows and bit at her lip, squeezing his hand back in return. She wanted him- she wanted to be his forever- she just hadn;t wanted to risk loosing him- and while she wasn;t so naive to assume that marrying him would mean he'd be hers forveer- it would at least give them some incentive. • His eyes widened in return - he was almost surprised that she had said yes - almost. "God, really babe?"
