I thought Lott was an incompetent nimrod fuck up BEFORE he stepped into it this time, so in many ways he has done the GOP a favor and provided a good reason to kick his ass to the backbench where he belongs.

I don't think that it's been reported enough how much of the conservative press led the charge against Lott after his idiotic and implicitly racist statement at Thurmond's party. The mainstream press didn't start to pick up on the story until the monday or tuesday after the party (the prior Thursday)...over that weekend National Review Online, The Weekly Standard, Andrew Sullivan and other bloggers were calling for his head (not to mention liberal online media too).

Now that Lott has shown the extent of his malleable backbone (grovelling on BET and suddenly converting to a proponnent of affirmative action!) he doubly needs to resign as SML. I'll be happy to keep him in the Senate. (He can take some pointers from former KKK Kleage Robert Byrd on how to be a hardcore racist...)
