For a change of pace, I bolded your words.......

Would you really claim that America is one culture? I'll answer it for you - we are multiple cultures - not really an amalgamation at all. Rather than the "melting pot" you always hear about, we are more of a stew - big chunks are not melted into the whole.

Would I dare to demand that Black America deny its heritage to assimilate? Is the culture of New England the same as Montana's? Does the Hassidic Jew in New York City really have the same culture as the Latino migrant farm worker in California? Is South Florida's culture the same as Kentucky's? Is the culture of the middle class in suburban Kansas City the same as its upper class or its lower class, despite living within minutes of one another and rubbing elbows with one another day after day after day? Do all of these cultures share traits? Absolutely. Are they all the same? No. Should they all be the same? No.

Going along that same line, I find the phrase "One world culture can be extremely diverse." to be such an oxymoron that it totally stretches and dilutes the meanings of "one", "culture" and "diverse."

Dissolving nations does nothing about dissolving cultures - look at our own example. Look to the Romans, the Soviets, the Yugoslavians. Nations were buried to a new national identity that never quite caught on.

Globalization refers to two things (according to my understanding) - the economic control you referred to and the destruction of cultures I referred to. I've heard those same protestors complain about the loss of native languages and the ways that other cultures are adopting American cultural traits.

RE: Moveon.org and the video. Honestly, Stu, I can't really see myself trusting anything they have to say precisely because of who they are. They are so anti-Bush that they destroy their own credibility because every aspect of the man's life has been twisted to look as though he has lived a diabolical plot to ruin America since he was born. Have you read their webpage and followed their links? I did yesterday. I spent a lot of time there. I found it silly to the point of absurd (but attractively arranged, for the most part). I was most definitely not a fan of Clinton but I always thought the nuts that claimed he killed off dozens of people who got in his way in Arkansas and D.C. (like Vince Foster, for example) and claimed that he was selling millions of dollars of drugs with the CIA in Arkansas were out there on the edge of sanity. Those people, in my opinion (take it for what it's worth) are the ultra left-wing equivalent of those ultra right-wing wackos. Both sides should take up painting by numbers of animal husbandry or some other hobbies.
