If you look at video of Moe the clubface is not square on the swing plane for most of the swing. Similar to CG when the club is horizontal on the downswing prior to impact the clubface is completely open to the plane. When the club is horizontal in the follow through the clubface is also completely open to the plane.

You can also see this in the pictures here.

The clubface is not square to the plane with either IMA or NG over most of the swing. It is this thought magnified by some of the drills in LTOBG that cause people to think there is no release. The clubface is square to the plane for most of the swing with HSS.
