Subject: Elena S. and Samantha were the standouts in the video. Some of them are clearly very recent immigrants. I think there should be a rule that they are at least Canadian citizens. If they are not, they should be disqualified. It would have no relation to Canada whatsoever. Conceivably some girl from Romania could send in her photos, be accepted for the pageant and arrive several days before. Why even call it Miss Universe Canada then. I stand by my comments. This isn't about immigrant's rights. There is no "right" to represent Canada in a beauty contest. Must be a Canadian citizen by birth or naturalization and must provide proof of the foregoing". From Miss Universe Canada web site: "To qualify for the 2008 competition, you must be a Canadian Citizen and at least 18 years of age and under 27 years of age by February 1st, 2008". I don't know about eligibility for other pageants. BTW, to become a Canadian citizen a newcomer must have a legal immigration status of Landed Immigrant and live in Canada for at least 3 years.
