I think it's not so much a discrimination to the contestant, I believe it is more of a measure taken to make sure the pageant coordinators can get everything they need out of whoever it is that wins.

Think of it this way, the contestant who wins, is often
asked to travel a lot, appear at events and volunteer, take time writing speeches, and advocate for charity group and fundraisers. As a young mother, this may come to be difficult when you have a child at your hip. With that being said, If I was a young mother at that age, there's no saying I would definitely try to do all this, and I would have family that would support me and take care of my child when I was needed elsewhere, however, the pageant coordinators don't know what kind of background these girls are coming from, and now a day's you can sign up for a pageant out of a whim! Not many pageants ask for a criminal background check anymore. I don't think there is any sort of discrimiation factor here at all.

I have a wealth of experience in this exact topic relating to a delegate who tried unsuccessfully to enter a local pageant as a single mom. Click in (stupid character limits lol)Christi14:44:50 07/06/10 Tue
