  • I think most people would the tax, but I can see other problems. What about the adjucators who come in from overseas and get paid for judging. Don't they get paid cash? What about the musicians? They are coming into the country working. Do they declare at customs that they have come in to work and get paid for it? Do schools who have workshops with overseas teachers declare that these teachers are being paid in cash?     • It's not up to the schools to tell anyone, it's up to the person taking the money out of the country to declare income on their own tax returns. You know how there is a section on our tax returns asking about money made overseas, I am sure they would have the same overseas. Not sure how it works when you have made the money in one counry but live in another. Maybe as they have earned under the Australian tax threshold amount, they do not pay tax in Australia, but would need to add anything earned here to their local total income.   • We have always bought our 70 Denier tights at Woolies! Never had a ladder. You can also get them in Target, Kmart, BigW, especially at this time of year. We have some very tall girls and they buy a higher denier to get a more solid colour. Woolies has 90 and higher as well.   Whilst researching import duty, I came across this on the Australia Post website. I have seen several times people saying to mark a package as a gift so it won't be charged duty. I have always believed this to be incorrect information, so here it is in writing...
  
  Gifts sent to you
  
  There is no longer a concession for goods sent as a gift. Goods that are gifted, donated, loaned or supplied free of charge are still subject to assessment for duty and other taxes and charges if they have a value of more than A$1,000 or if the goods are tobacco and/or alcohol products.
  
  If you are unable to provide evidence of the value of the goods, the legislation provides other ways of determining value.
  
  The ‘gift concession’ (by-law number 9740019) was revoked on and from 1 October 2008, after the low value goods threshold was increased to A$1,000.
