          • Maybe worlds in the UK you can stay at a B&B but not next year. Worlds is in Boston where you must stay in an official hotel at around $200 per night when you add in all of the US taxes. You have no choice, you can not stay in cheaper accom or you wil have to pay $100 per day, per person, including the dancer, to get in to the venue. So between Perth nationals and going to Boston, Perth would definitely be cheaper. (NT) -- -, Sun, Nov 04 2012, 13:44:26"

              • Even if the dancer is attending the competition alone, why would you pay $180 ( $80 plus $100 fee) to stay at a B&B probably outside of the city, when you could pay $20 more and stay in the onsite hotel? Also taking into account that it will possibly be snowing and you would have to get from your B&B to the dancing in the freezing cold.   • if you go to www.australiapost.com.au and use the postage calculator you will get a better idea, Depending on the weight of the dress it will be close to 2kg with all the packing if it's a larger dress, a smaller dress would be under. I'm not sure if it would cost different amounts to send to Northern Ireland v Southern Ireland, but if you put it in, it will tell you the different rates for each method, look at Express Courier International if you want full tracking.   • I can never remember what mean and ard are but Iwill guess! If you have won the state championships it would seem a bit silly to then go back to dancing in intermediate, it doesn;t seem very fair to other dancers who are trying to upgrade if you stay there winning everything stopping them from upgrading when you are obviously good enough to be in Open.   • This happens more in the younger age groups. If a dancer wins the 8yrs state champs dancing a jig, reel and traditional, when they move up to the 9 yrs they can start out the year dancing the hornpipe and set dance in imtermediate as they have not won those dances previously.   • It all depends on the size of the aircraft that you are flying on and the plocieis of that particular airline. I have flow on Airbuses and we were allowed to pop the dress in the overhead locker. It fitted easily. I have flown on smaller aircraft and they took the dresses and checked them into the baggage... (NT) -- Check with the airline, Fri, Nov 09 2012, 6:16:26"

  • When you go to check in, have someone hold dress for you, then when boarding the plane have the dress kind of behind you, out of sight out of mind! Once in the US we were boarding a small plane and as we lined up on the tarmac to climb the stairs someone came along and put a tag on everyone's hand luggage, anything with a tag was taken off people as the boarded and put in the hold. I just took the tag off my dress bag and walked right on the plane! • I know this is not a new topic but I just wanted to pose the question as to WHY the Nationals are being held in Perth next year when the cost and availability of accommodation is going to make it impossible for many families to attend. I have just been told that the place I have booked (at $280 per night) is sub standard and dirty. Accommodation outside the CBD is not an option because of the cost of car hire and parking.   • There are plenty of places to stay in Perth NEAR the city which are a cheap taxi fare or bus/train ride away. Us Perth dancers would spend close to $1000 (or more!) every year on flights and accommodation to go to the nationals and we never complain.   • Put damp newspaper (as wet as you can get it without it actually dripping) inside the shoes for a few hours and then wear them around. This softens the leather and then, as they dry, they'll mould to your feet. Also just bend and flex them constantly until they soften out a bit. Others may say to use "hot glove" or boiling water and all sorts of things but I've always been too scared of ruining a new pair of shoes to try it.   I could not agree more, every year Perth dancers travel without whining on this messageboard. I now for a fact that AIDA will definitely not change the State for next year so either make a decision now about coming or stay home and watch Milton's site. Yes it is expensive but get over it. Still plenty of time to save which is what I am doing. Instead of having two bottles of wine a week I will TRY and have 1 and make up for it in Perth. We booked accommodation about 15 minutes outside of Perth, have arranged a hire car for approx $200 for 9 day (including insurance).
  So this actually works out about the same cost from other States (excluing airfares off course). Am waiting on sales on that one.
  If you seriously think that AIDA will listen to your demands to change the State don't bother. The venue is booked deposit paid as well as all the other parents and dancers who have paid for accommodation and airfares.
  I cannot beleive some of the posts that I read on this subject and feel very sorry for all the Perth dancers that each and every year support our Nationals without any bother in the world. Yes I have no doubt that it costs them so much more every year so imagine how they feel that next year they are going to save approx $2000 (cost of a new dress).
  Have planned my trip and am saving so my girls have the opportunity to go to Perth and visit a great State. We have booked to go to Rottnest as well before the Championships start.
  Also our TC told us that there is no Ceili next year and the Dance of Champions will be after the Senior teams so no need to stay for extra days if you normally do just for the ceili.

  • I agree with you totally. This will be our third trip to Perth. Yes its expensive, but everybody has the choice - go or don't go. Don't complain about it. If your dancer's have a part time job, ask them to help out with the cost, only go for the days that they dance and don't pay for extra accommodation. Pay your airfare one way save more money and pay the airfare home. There are lots of ways to save money re going to Nationals. Please everyone just enjoy the experience, or as I said don't go. I thought the idea of a bun is because you don't want the huge wig, then at these Nationals saw buns that came right down to the dancers ears and right down the back of their hairline so it looked more like a curly skull cap.                 • Not that I wear a bun wig, but from my observations I think the ones that look the best are not too huge, they are not right on top of the head, but slightly back. The natural hair is not slicked against the head, but is a litle loose and is visible. The bun is just that, a bun. Just as if you did a bun on your natural hair, most of your head is not covered with the bun,i it is just neat and tidy on your head with most of your pulled back hair still visible.   Brand new hard shoes, which are very tight on my feet though. My toes are crushed at the end, but they hurt my heals a LOT. Are they too small, or do I need to break them in? How do I break them in?

  • As a mum, I'd say they were too tight. Toes need to touch the tip but not be crushed. You'll have problems with ur feet when you get older if you don't look after them now.
