- Joe's web site states they arrange travel for sporting groups, corporate and entertainment. I think he has seen a business opportunity and run with it. He will be making a profit from each room we purchase from him and don't let him tell you otherwise. He will possibly mark the room up 5% to 12% (standard travel agents commission). We need to find out if the hotels he has blocked booked with has given him a special rate. (NT) -- very angry mum, Sat, Aug 09 2008, 20:47:30"
  - One hotel I rang said they wouldn't even have been able to give Joe a room rate yet, as the rates hadn't been set yet for more than a year away. But he got a special OK from the hotel management to book all the rooms from 22 Sept 09 for 2 weeks, and has until 1 Jan to pay 50% deposit. The hotel person said travel agents never pull out of paying a deposit because they only have to sell half the rooms they book to break even.         The point is, if you've been reading all the posts and debates - some of which have been removed by the Moderator. Geelong has it all....PLENTY of great accommodation. If Joe has booked it ALL then there is no choice right? AIDA will have to sort it out if nobody's coming to Nationals. The guy is away....wait till he's back. I heard AIDA Vic was going to run shuttles from the city anyway. Maybe only those few who start 1st each day would really have to be in Geelong. Maybe let the motels know that you won't be booking with Joe, when they say there's nothing else available.   - I'm sure aida has done their best to find a decent venue, it's not easy to find something suitable. It's a shame about the Joe situation, but until he gets back and explains himself, there isn't much we can do. The bigger problem seems to be the amount of rooms in Geelong. As someone said Quest only has 27 apartments, so even if Joe didn;t book them all, they would all be gone by now anyway and only 27 familes out of 1,200 with a room.
