- For Tanning, spray tans look great but also i use the Ella Bache Tan as it goes more browner than orange and you can wash it off. For Makeup i would just say do it for the stage. over eyeliner, a bright eyeshadow and the normal blush lipstick and mascara. Use the eyes as the feature. (NT) -- Good Luck to you., Sat, Jul 26 2008, 1:04:09"
- Book a make-up lesson. Fantastic (NT) -- We had a lesson at Napoleon. They teach you by completing one side of the face and you get to do the other, Sat, Jul 26 2008, 1:16:48"
- There is a product from Priceline called The Bronzer in a purple tube. You rub it on your legs on the morning of competition and it gives a beautiful shimmery bronze look. Make sure you wash your hands after you rub it on her though! And then it washes off in the shower that night. It's a great product unless you have white lining in your solo dress, then I wouldnt advise it! (NT) -- Or you could try Rimmel sun shimmer - similar sort of product. Good luck!, Sat, Jul 26 2008, 3:48:34"

- Just read this on the UK board. NEW AN COIMISIUN RULING Please note that as and from June 15th 2008. Any person, whether registered with An Coimisiun or not, who gives a workshop, in any form, to a class, should be regarded as being associated with that class and any other dancing school in which they have an involvement, whether directly or indirectly. All classes associated with such a person should be regarded as being connected by association, -- Does this mean the 2 year ban has been extended forever., Wed, Jul 23 2008, 13:05:08"

- Oh....thankyou, I'm not in the know about Irish dance rules etc, but does this seem harsh. Does it mean that if a Teacher etc wants to judge a comp, then a child who's had a lesson/steps with that teacher, could not dance in that comp. (NT) -- Wondering., Thu, Jul 24 2008, 1:40:55"
- Won't this affect the adjucator pool for all competitions? (NT) -- :), Thu, Jul 24 2008, 1:54:53"
- What is the reason for this? Seems like they want to make the pool of adjudicators much smaller? (NT) -- Doesnt make sense!, Thu, Jul 24 2008, 2:01:08"
- Thanks for explaining. I still dont understand what value or benefit the new rule provides? If it means less entries at competions - will it result in less competitions? (NT) -- Understand, but confused at the reason for the new rule., Thu, Jul 24 2008, 2:32:54"
- it must of been felt by an comm that not all adcrg's could judge fairly when faced with a child on stage they had done a workshop or class for at some stage. but note all tcrg's and adcrg's have to list all workshop given & received when paying yearly subs & it shouldn't affect aus champs as all possible 'connections' are removed from the list of possible judges. - it sounds like eventually we are gonna end up having no teachers judging at competitions where schools have done workshops. it sounds a little bit ridiculous to me. (NT) -- taken out of hand dont u think?, Thu, Jul 24 2008, 8:37:08"
- Think issue even more complicated as person giving workshop does not have to be a TCRG. So any ex dancer or show dancer who gives help in more than one school then the schools are deemed to be associated. (NT) -- Interested bystander, Thu, Jul 24 2008, 9:13:37"
- Above poster very wrong. New rule is not retrospective - only new workshops and only for a two year period. People are just going to be more selective if having workshops. By the way it doesn't only apply to kids getting workshop but everyone in the school!! (NT) -- sct, Thu, Jul 24 2008, 23:32:55"
- gfoodness surely the Australian Irish Dancing Community is too small for this ruling to work. We may find we are out of judges!! (NT) -- spectator, Fri, Jul 25 2008, 4:54:15"

hey, i'm a dancer moving from canada to the geelong victoria area. i was wondering what competative school's are in the area. I'm also wondering what age group i would be because it might be different. My birthday is in July 1993 and i am currently under 15 in canada & what dances would i do ? Also i was wondering what the levels are at local feis' . i'm sorry for all the simple questions but i just thought i would need to know once i go. any information would be much appriciated. thanks !

- In Autstralia this year you dance as a 14 year old where as in Canada you would dance as an Under 15. It is just the wording that is different. The dances this year for girls are slip jig and jig with a hornpipe set and for boys it is reel and hornpipe wih a jig set dance. Sorry, I don't know the schools available in the Geelong area but others will let you know I'm sure. Victorians are quite strong dancers so I'm sure you will enjoy the competitions. I don't know how many boys are in your age group in Vic. but there are a few Australia wide. Hope this helps. (NT) -- a mum, Tue, Jul 08 2008, 2:00:39"
- I always think of the age groups as 'the age you are on the 1st of January'. So for you it would be 14. We have 4 levels in competition - beginner, primary, intermediate and open. Intermediate is kind of equivalent to novie/prizewinner moving into prelim and then open is prelim/open champs. Intermediate/open level dance at our nationals the same as your O. - the nan's split competitions where there are more than 150 competitors, as otherwise the number of entrants on one section would often reach up to 300. To avoid this, they split the age groups in half, splitting the dancers born after july 1 from the dancers born januray 1. Note- the split isn't always these months, but either side of the date of the middle competitor. The number of the whoel age group is the A split + the B split, but there are still two national champions and twice the number of recalls and world qualifiers. - I have never seen the edging for sale, you need to buy organza fabric (polyester preferably not silk) then cut bias strips, join them all together to the correct ratio (2:1) of the edge that you are attaching them to. The edge of the ruffles are finished with a very light guage fishing line and you zig zag or overlock on top of it right on the edge of the fabric. - I think that when you enter a feis you should be prepared that it might be an early start on the first day or a late finish on the second day (Have done both). At some point we will have to do one or the other, just accept it, it must be very hard for the organisers when they have people complain every time they announce the times of a feis well in advance (NT) -- id, Mon, Jul 07 2008, 23:29:07"
- It's really no biggy, it's just that so many comps this year have had the 13's start first up, McAleer, Winter Solstice and a few others, it seems it's not a case of sooner or later but every time. Hopefully next year the 14's ( this years 13's) will get a break. (NT) -- -, Tue, Jul 08 2008, 3:11:58"

- I can see what the OP means, but it does work out a little easier when the children get older. Then, sadly, often when they are seniors, there's no one there to watch them dance other than their family. It's such a shame when this happens as the younger dancers could benefit so much from watching the seniors dance. (NT) -- DM, Tue, Jul 08 2008, 5:36:17"

- I think this the people that are continually whinging about this need to get over it! Around the age of 13 EVERYONE seems to be put on early. I mean when I was 13 6 years ago we were always the early starters. Now that I'm a senior I'm always on in the night. Everybody else has dealt with it in the past so now its your turn. If you are going to moan this much then there is a simple solution - dont enter comps (NT) -- No nice way to say it, and frankly sick of hearing it, Fri, Jul 11 2008, 13:31:58"
- exactly. The 14s 6,7and8 years are also on at nine and no complaints there. (NT) -- mum (great job Kate), Sat, Jul 12 2008, 1:29:00"
We have same problem in Victoria, 13 years always on first. However, to those who say "stop whinging"....my daughter has been competing since 2003 and I can count on one hand how many times she's not been first up. I get the idea that once you hit a certain age its your turn up first BUT how do you explain being up first in 8yrs, 9yrs, 10yrs, 11yrs, 12yrs and now 13yrs. (NT) -- I challenge someone to check the archives and tell me I'm wrong...I would humbly pull my head in!!!!, Sat, Jul 12 2008, 3:34:47"
- I am sure that you are correct, however your daughters section is not the only one to have been put through this (in NSW anyway). Please get a grip, or if you are serious about this issue join the organising committee for each feis (NT) -- !!, Sat, Jul 12 2008, 4:36:52"
- We have a large group of 13's in our school. We joke that there must be someone on some main organising committee within aida ( I know this probably doesn't exist ) who has a now 13 year old dancer, so each year they have to get to each of the comps first to set up so they always out their childs group on first to get it over with for the day, so next year 14's will be first, then 15's and so on. Again, we just joke about this reason,, but.... (NT) -- -, Sun, Jul 13 2008, 4:33:07"
- Could be a little off topic but i prefer dancing early! that means you get to go first - get it all over and done with and sit back and watch everyone else dance :):) It is hard to wake up but then again when i dance later i am always awake early with nerves anyways! (NT) -- Early bird :) xxx, Mon, Jul 14 2008, 5:32:49"
- just think of what it was like back when noone wore wigs and you had to uncurl hair in the morning too! wasn't fun at all (NT) -- cant complain, Tue, Jul 15 2008, 14:58:31"
- Claddagh feis -- Joanne Shaw, Tue, Jul 15 2008, 15:40:19"
- When you write these whinging comments please just keep in mind how hard it is to organise a feis, the last thing feis organises need is complaints. Between geting judges, finding a suitable auditurium which needs a quite large, safe stage, a space for warming up and practising and enough room for parents and such and of course the price of hiring a hall. Then of course the timetable. Which many people are complaing about. Organising a feis is not easy! Give feis organzers a break! (NT) -- -, Wed, Jul 16 2008, 7:36:33"
- i dont see them as being whining, i see the same age groups at the same times, mothers commenting and even asking for a later time start. yes you need to say something to your tc's to pass on the info to AIDA OR if you know who is organising the feis you wish to go in, perhaps a nice pleasant email requesting a later start time. no harm in asking. of course its not easy to organise a feis, but shuffling the age groups can be done without breaking an eyebrow over it. (NT) -- asking nicely :), Wed, Jul 16 2008, 7:53:54"
- Oh please stop using the word whinging! People are saying how they feel and finding kindrid spirits (discussing). We are also part of the 13yo crew and I actually do prefer the mornings rather than late afternoon, however since the dance career began they have been first most of the time. I always thought the younger ones would eventually take this spot, not to be. Organising a feis would not be easy I am sure(not under question) however if you start with the 13's every time that would be part of the work done hey!!! (NT) -- ., Wed, Jul 16 2008, 7:59:22"
- I don't think anyone expects that organising a feis is easy however, if you're putting the same group up first year after year instead of leaving the timetable basically the same, then you're going to get complaints. We've sucked it up year after year, expecting that our turn will come for a later start. No, organising is not easy but a bit of brain power wouldn't hurt. (NT) -- If 12yrs are up first this year then make sure 13yrs are not up first next year., Thu, Jul 17 2008, 3:17:48"
- The 12yrs last year (now 13yrs) were actually one of the last sections on the Sunday afternoon last year for this comp...so I guess it is being shared around. (NT) -- *, Fri, Jul 18 2008, 11:20:30"
- Is this the same hall it has been in for the last 2yrs?? (NT) -- thanks, Sun, Jul 20 2008, 11:25:37"
