Finding it very difficult to get a dressmaker to make a boys Jacket (new style with full sleeves. I'm looking for a dressmaker to make a boys Jacket/Vest or buy second hand one. Modern up to date style, to fit 14yr old boy with approx 84cm chest, neck to back hem 55cm.

Dresses take a lot of time and energy, so why would anyone make a dress that wouldn't sell easily? NZ Nationals opened.. But not to Australians :-( -- Disappointed, Fri, May 11 2012, 0:42:00"
Just seen that NZ have opted to open their Nationals from this year onwards. Was quite excited by this news and went on the TIDANZ website, which confirms that the NZ Nationals are open to international competitors..

However there is a clause:

"This is conditional entry to dancers only from countries whose championships are currently open to NZ dancers."

In other words, because AIDA still keeps the Australian Nationals closed to everyone outside Australia (including NZ), Australian dancers cannot dance in the NZ Nationals.

I understand completely why the NZ Commitee would do this (why should they let us compete in their Nats when they can't compete in our Nats). Wonder how long before other National level comps (NANs, All Ireland's, British Nationals, Great Brits) start excluding us too, because AIDA won't let them compete at our Nationals in return for our dancers competing at theirs.

        Because great championships don't just happen, they grow. It's been said before, but a good start would be to support the ones halfway there e.g McAleer, Gold Coast etc. The greater support they have locally, the more worthwhile it is for NZ/OS dancers (and more likely it will be to have OS judges). We are at a disadvantage being so far away, but we can make a change through supporting our current championships.     - I agree, but then people complained because it was recall and they were upset when they didn't recall. the Winter Solstice was always our favourite feis because of the international judges and yes, the recall, which far from being a negative, improves the standard. Hate to say this and please don;t take it the wrong way but Australian dancers are somewhat spoiled. there are dancers overseas who never get recalled because of the super high standard and the high number of dancers. I never recalled at the Winter Soltice but we were given a small participation medal - I loved it. - Tell her you're interested and ask her if you can try out a class. Many schools will let you come to the first class for free and let you pay weekly for lessons until you reach the Primary grade. Depending on your ability, you will probably spend the first year in Beginner/Primary, so you won't need a $1000+ dress just yet. Just found out that it was voted at the last teachers meeting that they will not announce top 10 at Nationals any more. Apparently some teachers thought it was too sad for the 11th place dancer. Really? This is very disappointing, why not stop announcing 5th place as it's too sad for the 6th place dancer not on the blocks. Can't believe some teachers. Announcing the top 10 was the best thing about results to be introduced in years and now it's gone. My dd loved it because it is so stressful for them up on stage in front of everyone not knowing where you are going to end up. At least once the top 10 were announced, those in the top ten can rest easy for a while and those not in the top 10 can compose themselves.
Getting in to the top ten is a huge achievement for these dancers and they should be celebrated and given an extra cheer. Teachers, please reconsider this decision.
