- The amount of dancer promotion the past few weeks has been insane. I know it happens every year but this year it feels like it’s increased so much. So many schools posting photos of their dancers from the AIO…. Which was months ago….. to promote their dancers. Why not post the photos as soon as the AIO finished rather than a couple weeks out from nationals. I am all for celebrating dancer achievements, but don’t use those photos as promotion. - Schools may have been told to stop but it doesn’t stop Irish dance pages that aren’t linked to schools. One in particular have been posting videos the past week of different kids from different schools. The rule doesn’t work when stuff like this can happen. (NT) -- Impossible to control, Tue, Sep 19 2023, 9:50:00"
- Plus when they include the results, e.g. “Perfect Score”, 🙄 on one post, however on the post the previous week there’s absolute radio silence on acknowledging the dancer’s placing as they were well & truly beaten. Poor sportsmanship personified (NT) -- IDD, Tue, Sep 19 2023, 16:29:18"
- They should be more concerned with cheating judges than social media posts (NT) -- DM, Wed, Sep 20 2023, 10:39:29"
- I don’t get the problem with promotion on social media, usually the ones who complain don’t have the results to promote so it’s a jealousy thing. Judges are not goi g to be scrolling through posts if they want to pull favours they will just message the TC the way they always have. Nothing there has changed. (NT) -- DM, Wed, Sep 20 2023, 10:46:02"
- I don't see an issue with social media posts, I'd rather that than teachers who encourage dancing agressively on stage with poor stage etiquette, as witnessed last weekend at QLD feis. One school in particular smiling assasins, big smiles but nearly knock you off the stage when dancing. Get yourself a good dentist if on stage with them cos they're likely to knock your teeth out! I hope next time adjudicators ring the bell or mark them down for their behaviour. Plenty room on stage for two dancers, no need for the bullying strategy. (NT) -- DM, Thu, Sep 21 2023, 10:37:42"
- Perhaps you don’t see an issue with social media promotion because a)you are the teacher doing the promoting or b)it is your child being promoted. By all means, achievements are to be celebrated. However, posting in such volume with countless collages of reaction photos, reaction videos, presentation photos, action shots etc. is not intending to merely ‘celebrate’. Smiling assassins, except for when you don’t win. Then results are buried. But then again, that is what conveniently timed throwback posts are for! (NT) -- Those ‘complaining’ about this blatant promotion often do have the results to promote but choose not to because they see the value in humble #champion., Thu, Sep 21 2023, 11:55:44"
- I am neither a teacher nor is my child promoted on social media by me or her teacher. I simply don’t have a problem with it as it doesn’t affect me or my child, I just scroll on. Barging into my child and dancing aggressively on stage however does affect my child and all the dancers who have to share a space with them. It’s poor etiquette, bullying and dangerous. (NT) -- DM, Sat, Sep 23 2023, 18:13:01"
- But this is the misconception, it does affect your child. If a child that was going to place behind your child gets extra points from back hand deals, your child does not place as well, does not qualify for Worlds or even get a recall because other dancers are being bumped up as favours. (NT) -- Affects all, Sun, Sep 24 2023, 7:22:28"
- You may scroll on, but others don't. In context, barging has nothing to do with the premise of the original post. Barging is a terrible tactic and hopefully at the time, judges see it for what it is and mark accordingly, however social media posts are a completely different beast – posted for longevity and with the purpose to give judges an unconscious bias, rather than neutrality. Just reading a post on the UK board about dress prices and am shocked! Someone saying they paid €3,000 for a COS dress and another £2,500 for Doire. Both of these are basically $AUD5,000. No wonder people are dropping out of Irish dance, add in import duty and gst if bringing in the dress to Australia and most families are priced out of the game. How do these dressmakers justify these costs? Is it the crystas added that increase the price so much? How do other Aussies afford a brand new dress, what are Aussie dressmakers charging? Yes there is used, but not every body type suits a used dress.

- I agree. $930 for 3 nights, prior to AIO it was $157 night to stay in Travelodge, such a rip off. Couple that with queues for coffee, food, & the main bar, which closed before results finished on Thursday, alternative option were bars for 18+ no children allowed. No bar open in the hall, we at least had that last year. Drilling and hammering all day at reception. Just move it back to Gold Coast and change the dates. (NT) -- DM, Sun, Jul 16 2023, 19:49:12"

I have a friend in the US who wants to come to AIO but she'd rather come to Sydney in summer and not right after NANS. And I'd assume others feel similarly. - Queensland States - Disappointing ticket situation -- Parent, Mon, Jul 10 2023, 16:46:59"
Disappointed to say the least that we have to pay to go and watch our children compete at States. Having already paid a substantial entry fee, plus a venue fee, we now have to also pay to watch each dancer, each section, with maximum of 3 guests. At that rate you can't even watch other children in the dance school if they are not in the same section as your child, due to limited tickets. There are plenty of venues in QLD which don't have this ticketing system, and ones where the hall is much bigger and has theatre seating. No wonder people are leaving this hobby in droves. Paying for family members to come and watch two children solos and teams at this States is incredibly expensive.

- Pretty sure they used to cover the full venue cost in dancer entry fees. I’d say this has become more difficult with much lower numbers. (NT) -- Dancer, Mon, Jul 10 2023, 21:47:49"
- I would be happy to pay double the entry fee if we could have tiered seating and a non ticketed event. Last year didn't feel like States at all. (NT) -- Can't it be done in 2 days now?, Wed, Jul 12 2023, 8:06:34"
- Constructive feedback not a whinge - theatre seating, a good dance floor and decent food options. That’s it!! Ticketing for seats causes much frustration as well as chaos in the hallway each session. There are so many more venues which could have been chosen and ones where parents did not have to fork out even more money to BUY a seat to watch your child. What are the organisers thinking. 10 tips for Irish Dancers from your friendly feis photographers
1. You dance amazing steps, sometimes three at a time on the stage. If there is only one photographer, they won’t get your most amazing tricks or lifts as they are trying to get photos of every dancer.
2. If your knickers or bloomers are visible from the back when you are standing still, most photos of you will include them.
3. If the stage lighting has been set so there are patches of light and dark on stage, many of your photos will be either too bright or too dark.
4. If you wear black and dance against a black backdrop, your photos will be few… and dark; this is worse for men/boys who often dance in black without any colour at all.
5. You have been practising your amazing choreography for months and expect the photographer to capture all the best bits; the photographer is seeing your choreography for the first time ever and will have to learn your best bits during the first step you dance.
6. Your choreography probably sounds amazing; it may photograph badly if there are no lifts, jumps, over-two-threes, birds etc. and every photo will look the same.
7. Your dancing energy is captured by the photographer; if you are flat, the photos will be too.
8. Dancers dance to the music, photographers rely on the music to capture the perfect shot; if you are out of time, the photos will be too.
9. Sometimes, almost every photo of you dancing has your eyes closed; that is exactly how you were for that 1/320th of a second.
10. Smiling during presentations, even when you didn’t achieve the place you wanted, makes you look amazing in the photos.

- Not the above poster but there is subjective and then there is cheating. You notice it more at comps like Worlds that announce all scores, when all but one AD gives very high scores like high 80's to 90's and then one gives 28. That is not personal taste, that is deliberate tanking of a dancer, and vice versa all low scores and one 100 is a favour without doubt. (NT) -- No name, Thu, May 11 2023, 21:11:20"
- I agree -- DM, Fri, May 12 2023, 8:44:32"
- So sorry that this happened to your DD. This is why it should be mandatory to drop the high and low scores at majors. It won't stop the cheating, but in your case would have saved your DD's obviously deserved top 10 place. (NT) -- No name, Fri, May 12 2023, 21:29:07"
- I'm sorry you feel that the judging was unjust. Did you look at the variation in places that other dancers received? I looked over the results after the "outcry" last year, I saw some 100s that brought some kids up in places, but all the "lower" set scores were in line with the other judges marks, I didn't see any that would have tanked a dancer. It’s always “interesting” to see a teacher start losing their composure when results aren’t in their favour. Blatant unsportsmanlike behaviour is so unbecoming. Just appreciate the dancing for what it is and that all dancers are vying for top positions - they’re all working hard, and as this is a straight out subjective sport, you can’t always bank on the so-called “norm” i.e. bias, and the old “well they always win” mentality. Celebrate the dancing for what it is, and acknowledge the dancers who are now really “bringing it” and mixing up results. I for one love seeing “new” dancers on top of the podium.

After spending a lot of money watching many competitions on Feis TV the last 12 months I've noticed that in Australia we spend a lot of time during announcements spelling out each persons qualifications. Eg every Adjudicator on the panel is announced including ADCRG after their name even though its obvious to everyone in the room they wouldnt be on that panel if they weren't the holder of an ADCRG qualification. Likewise every prize donation if donated by either a current or former member will include their TCRG/ADCRG in the announcement of their name. And then during presentations the winning teachers are all announced including their qualifications.
Why is this only done in Australia?

- Not at all. What I am saying is that each year there will be a small group of dancers that will have important exams. For some, they will prioritise exams and not dance that year. On the other hand, every family involved in dancing will have end of year social events (presentations, concerts etc.) Many will have other children involved in activities with their own end of year presentations. Missing a Christmas party one year isn’t significant. But having to miss out every year has an impact. We have just come through Covid - we know the importance of communities and social interactions. 1. You cannot be a TCRG and a ADCRG to judge at Australian FEIS
2. The points system should change, any of the three suggested systems would be welcomed.
3. Teachers should not be allowed to interact with their dancers at the front of the hall where there judging panel can see. Interactions should be at the back of the hall. No parading your dancer in front of the judge. Since when does a teacher need to hold a 15 year olds hand to walk to marshalling and in front of the judges.
4. Judging panel should be named on the morning of major events
5. Teachers and judges should not be allowed to have “drinks” before or during an event.
6. Musicians should not be allowed to play for their own school.

- Definitely disagree with the first - not only would it eliminate more than half the qualified teachers in the country, it would grossly discredit the work, knowledge and effort that goes in to studying, preparing and passing these exams. You obviously don’t know how this is structured or how it all works. If you did, you wouldn’t be saying this at all. (NT) -- Do your research first before jumping to such stupid ‘solutions’. - 1. Agree, but no need to insert the word stupid. 2. Changing how points are giving will not stop cheating. 3. Agree. 4. Makes no difference, as seen in texts people are still asked to cheat or will pass messages to AD who end up on panel. 5. Good luck with that one, will just be done in private. 6. Have never seen as Australian TC/AD play an instrument, let alone at a feis or major. - I think it’s laughable that you believe having your teacher play the music at a Feis will somehow make it easier for their pupil to win. What exactly can a musician do that wouldn’t be obvious to the audience/other Teachers? If there is an error with the music being played (apart from speed in a set dance, which must be picked up by the dancer prior to beginning their dancing) then those affected would be permitted to redance. -- -, Fri, Jan 13 2023, 7:24:48"

- Advantage I’d be more concerned with is judges off the floor at Nationals line last year. Cheating galore all texting and sharing who’s judging which section and pulling favours for each other. That was blatant cheating. (NT) -- DM, Wed, Jan 18 2023, 22:47:53"

- All identifiers must be removed from costumes, including names, headpieces, beauty marks, school names , world medals and globes! - Exactly, cheating AD's don't need names, they just learn what costume to give the points to. Ridiculous that CLRG went back to allowing names on dresses and now we see solo dresses with school name on too, in addition to dancer name and school identifiers, such as belts, flames, same headpiece/cape and school initials. If CLRG want parents to trust them that things are being done, this needs to be stopped. (NT) -- -, Sat, Feb 04 2023, 15:59:50"

- I think it's (only just) ok to have dancer's first name on a dress, although I don't know why you would, as it gives the impression of cheating so why would you want that? But teamed with school identifiers like patches with school initials or a specific design area on a dress, cape or headpiece, it is there for a reason and that reason is cheating and those that do it need to be called out and stopped. (NT) -- -, Thu, Feb 09 2023, 6:18:34"

- Change I would love to see is NO judges off the floor at majors, and if you do have to do this, only tell them just before section starts and not day before. Last year judges off floor sharing with teachers that they are judging "their" dancers section. Blatant favour pulling. As well as several judges from same State on one panel favouring that State's dancers. Please give the dancers the respect they deserve with fair judging! (NT) -- DM, Thu, Feb 23 2023, 12:03:27"

44 officially suspended -- James McCutcheon, 8/12/22 15:57:28, Thu [24]
As you are aware, An Coimisiún le Rincí Gaelacha initiated a disciplinary process into allegations of wrongdoing which have been widely reported.
Led and overseen by Mr Justice Michael Peart, a retired judge of the Court of Appeal, the independent investigation has thoroughly examined all complaints, grievances and all accompanying evidence.
This external investigation team has provided an update on its progress, and in the interests of transparency, we can confirm 44 cases have now been recommended to proceed to full disciplinary hearing. All the individuals involved have been informed and Clauses 3.2.a and 3.2.b of the Disciplinary Procedure have been invoked.
[3.2.a] Where following an investigation into any complaint, a recommendation is made that a disciplinary committee is convened, in the case of any individual elected to An Coimisiún or any of its affiliated bodies, [he/she] will be obliged to temporarily step down from any position held while the process is ongoing. (AGM 2016)
[3.2.b] Where an investigation into Gross Misconduct concludes there is sufficient evidence to invoke formal Disciplinary Procedures against any individual, that individual may not make any application to officiate at, or act in any official capacity at, any CLRG registered competition or event until formal Disciplinary Procedures have concluded.
These cases will be heard by an independent External Disciplinary Panel. Recruiting experienced, external individuals for this Panel is underway and will be finalised in due course.
We wish to reiterate that CLRG regards all allegations of wrongdoing with the utmost seriousness. We look forward to the External Disciplinary Panel commencing its work and dealing with these issues as soon as possible.
We would also like to reassure Members that we are fully dedicated to introducing positive changes as agreed and approved by your representatives at An Coimisiún. This is something we are committed to and focused on moving forward.
James McCutcheon SDCRG
Cathaoirleach
Do you have any of the 114 CLRG members in your Region that have resigned their position or may due to disciplinary procedures being invoked that are required to step down and not be able to be replaced, therefore your Region will not have full representation at the EGM, has your Region sought for these members to be replaced according to the rules of An Coimisiun as long as they are current members, in good standing, that have been accepted via the registration process and subject to the voting procedures that enable them to be elected as a valid teachers representative for their Regional Council or as an elected Teachers Representive to An Coimisiun Le Rinci Gaelacha with no ratification from the floor of An Coimisiun.
Lay Members that are elected via Regional Councils need to be ratified at an An Coimisiun meeting once all checks (Vetting & Child Protection) have been completed by the Regional Council.
Will this affect the teachers in your Region being afforded representation at the EGM?
If as a TCRG, TMRF, ADCRG, you have any questions regarding the above questions please email cathaoirleach@clrg.ie to air your concerns.

IDTANA Statement October 13, 2022
CLRG recently issued statements regarding an investigation connected to allegations of competition manipulation at major events. Such unethical behavior is a serious breach of the CLRG Code of Conduct and all allegations must be investigated to their fullest.
IDTANA supports CLRG in this investigation, the disciplinary process, and its outcome. We are pleased that the first phase of the investigation has been completed in accordance with the CLRG Disciplinary Procedure. It is imperative that the proceedings continue to be professional, transparent, and expedient.
IDTANA acknowledges that these allegations undermine confidence in Irish dancing. While it is a challenging time for teachers, dance families, and dancers, it is also an opportunity to re-examine competition procedures. To that end, IDTANA facilitated a productive discussion among the seven North American Regional Directors regarding the best practices to create a transparent competitive atmosphere. North America is proud to be at the forefront of such an important and necessary collaborative effort.
All North American regions will be strengthening their Oireachtas procedures with the goal of eliminating any opportunity for competition manipulation. In order to ensure the integrity of the process, we will not publicize the changes that will be implemented in each region.
Please be assured that we are committed to providing a fair competition environment where all dancers step on stage with equal footing.

- Associations in ID -- ., Fri, Oct 14 2022, 10:11:42"
Do you think that CLRG needs to put something in place that limits the number of schools/dancers an ADCRG can be associated with? Are we coming to a time where one single AD can wipe out hundreds of dancers from competing at a major because of school mergers and workshops? One school seems intent on some kind of ID world domination, gathering more and more schools into its fold and also travelling to other schools and countries for workshops. When that AD or any other AD associated with them gets mandated to judge Worlds, there are potentially huge numbers of dancers who would be out. I know it is the choice of each school and they go into it knowing that this can and most likely will happen, but what is the limit? When is enough enough? Soon half the schools in the world will be associated if it keeps growing at the current rate.
The likelihood of this happening also increases when there's more than one AD in a school or the merged or workshop schools also have AD's. Will the dancers in a U.S school be happy when an AD in a far off country gets called to Judge worlds and they can't dance? The tentacles of this stretch all over the world. I guess many dancers are out every year, but I feel the time is near when the stars will align and a much bigger number will be out due to a super worldwide merged school AD being called upon.
How many more schools can one super school suck up before there are real issues. I single out one school but also acknowledge that there are other AD's, not merged, who also spend many days/months each year travelling the world doing workshops, further associating more and more schools as they rake in huge cash payments, but at what cost? Again the schools go into it with full knowledge, but I still feel that in the end the dancers will suffer whilst the AD's enjoy their "fame" and ever increasing bank balances with the comfort of knowing that they are untouchable.

- Feels like Nationals isn't even happening, no news anywhere without paying. Are there no pages anywhere with some candid pics? AIDA missing a great promotional opportunity to promote Irish Dance and maybe attract new dancers. -- -, Wed, Sep 28 2022, 18:12:59"

- I agree. Sad how little promotion there is. I have feisTV but can’t watch it at work, so I rely on dancing schools posting about their students results/recalls. With small sections and many at home, it would’ve been best for AIDA to post information on the facebook page or through the hashtags. AIDA has become too focused on the money side of things like photos and streaming but has yet to support the dancing community through this event. Years of no nationals and you can’t even feel the atmosphere anymore :/ (NT) -- … (Really unfortunate), Wed, Sep 28 2022, 20:44:55"
- AIDA are the teachers - they are there supporting the dance community by running the championships and getting their dancers ready for the stage. I’m sure the results will be available on the AIDA website next week or so. I doubt a Tumblr page is drawing in new students. (NT) -- -, Thu, Sep 29 2022, 14:26:07"
- No one gets paid to be there, except for adjudicators and musicians. AIDA have outsourced the role this year and that means people have to pay for the service. (NT) -- It’s unfortunate that people expect everything for free these days without considering the cost (time, flights, accommodation) to others., Thu, Sep 29 2022, 14:29:53"
- I am sure that if AIDA had asked, there would have been someone, if not several people, who would have been glad to do updates on the AIDA facebook page. I am not expecting a full commentary, just a daily post or two, with what sections are on, how many competitors and a couple of photos from around the venue. Not asking much. (NT) -- -, Thu, Sep 29 2022, 14:45:41"
- Pretty sure the council has had social media 'leader' and teams previously that could help them out, they've obviously not considered it or didn't think it's important to help market Irish Dancing full stop!! (NT) -- What do 'delegates' actually do anyway?, Thu, Sep 29 2022, 18:05:48"
- Delegates do a lot of the organisation in the lead up to the AIO and National championships (fundraising, awards, timetabling, entries, ensuring team entries are valid, organise dancer packs etc.), they act as a go between for the state and National branches of AIDA. They also are up at all hours of the night attending CLRG meetings, doing their best to represent Australian interests. (NT) -- Again… all unpaid., Thu, Sep 29 2022, 20:19:18"
- They should definitely be doing the live commentary like they have always done. It was world class and so reliable (NT) -- There is nowhere to find out actual information about this comp. Ridiculous., Wed, Sep 28 2022, 23:18:38"
- If you have Instagram, follow as many schools as you can find as many of them are posting photos. Does anyone know how big the sections are? (NT) -- --, Thu, Sep 29 2022, 14:52:00"
- FeisTV doesn't allow to purchase a pass for a single day, $40 is a bit steep if you aren't going to be using it each day, or at least more than 1! (NT) -- More options for 2023 please!!!, Thu, Sep 29 2022, 17:59:02"
- Is there anywhere to see results? (NT) -- Haven't time to watch so don't want to pay, Fri, Sep 30 2022, 9:24:27"
- Really missed the live commentary this year (NT) -- FeisTV was good as a streaming service. But not as good as live comm for getting updates and a feel for the space and event, Thu, Oct 13 2022, 10:18:26"

- This news is just about as bad as it can get. AIDA Inc need to explain their actions to all the parents who put so much money into these championships and should expect to have the best adjudicators available, not just people who became ADCRG's years ago and don't get asked to judge because they're too old. It's the least they can do for us as parents and wider community if we are to retain our confidence in them. - How can people boast on social media about their wins when they are associated with these AD's? - This sort of behaviour is not an isolated incident. Anyone involved in Australian Irish Dance knows how long it has been going on for and swept under the rug. When a school paints beauty spots on their dancers, at a nationals not so long ago, to allow easy recognition, it should have prompted an investigation. As it also happens, there is an entire thread on Mid America Voy regarding these identifiable costumes. (NT) -- Ropeable, Thu, Oct 06 2022, 13:31:18"
- You don't have to have identifying costumes, although one school did. Teacher and Adjudicator just need to meet in the bar, as was seen at the Convention Centre, to discuss the upcoming sections. (NT) -- .., Thu, Oct 06 2022, 13:35:10"

- While you are allowed to be disappointed, I think it is a bit much to expect a sash/big trophy just because people choose to travel from interstate. I think one big Championship per state works best, as you are more likely to get all the interstate dancers at that competition, rather than spread over a couple of events. - I have to say as someone who danced in the late 90s and early 00's this is disappointing. Sashes used to only be given to top three at states and nationals - To get a sash was a HUGE achievement - now looks like every feis is handing them out. In regards to medals - this was your prize - again back in the day the medal was your prize... in a premiership again only top 5 would get trophies. Kiran Rajguru (Aisling)

Catherine Cunningham (Aisling)
Elizabeth Claro (Halloran)
Talicia Williams (Halloran)
Marlese Newell (Crocker?)

It is a LONG time since I posted here, but in doing so, I sincerely hope that all you fabulous dancers have been able to keep your spirits high and your feet working. Some of you older dancers and teachers may recall Celtic Soles, which used to sell shoes and socks at mostly Victorian competitions up until about 15 years ago, when a sad family accident saw me needing to fold the business - and badly let down many customers. But I am posting here to let one and all know that I still have a good number of Large (2-8) and Medium (13 -2) bubble socks stored away, but looking for new owners.
They are $6.00 a pair - but keep in mind that you pay postage and postage is pricey these days - it may pay to buy 3 or more pair in the one hit. My email address should be here with this post, so please write if you are looking for great quality Australian made dance socks. Jeff Wallis.

- Transfers -- -, Sun, Mar 27 2022, 8:12:36"
Reading the post below about "glory over allegiance" got me thinking. I don't know the story described below but this negativity over dancers changing schools always fascinated me.
People change who they do business with all the time and yet in dancing, it is considered a crime. Any student can change schools for better results, not dancing schools, but every day school. I took my own child out of their daily school because I wasn't happy with it, so what? We moved on, no-one posted about it on social media, putting me down for wanting something different and hopefully better for my child.
It's a free country to do as people see best for themselves and their child. Who cares if someone leaves? If they are not happy, would you force them to stay? Yes, I know all of the excuses about a teacher taking a child from beginner to opens etc but still, a 5 year old is not the same person at 15 or 16, do you still go to all of the same businesses your mother took you as a 5 year old? Same hairdresser, same dentist/doctor/plumber? Are you still best friends with your classmates from kindergarten? Most likely no, so what's the problem? Stop the negativity please and let people make the best choices for themselves, choices that don't even affect you, yet you feel you have a right to post about them on a public board. Schools don't own dancers, dancers pay for a service and can move if they want to and their reason doesn't matter, end of story.

Extremely grateful that we are able to hold the championships but reviewing the covid safety plan (csp) on the entry forms it seems the csp is not in line with current restrictions and what will be come the weekend of the championship.
The 4sq meter rule, one accompanying person per dancer, no vaccination status, QR check in etc...
Is it just a copy and paste from last years entry and an oversight?
I really hope so!

Australian Irish Dancing Association Incorporated
To all in our dancing community,
It is with extreme sadness and regret that the National Council of AIDA Inc. has taken the very difficult decision to cancel the 2021 Australian Irish Dancing Championships.
This decision has not been easy but has been made in the best interests of our dancers’ physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. AIDA Inc.’s priority will always be the health of our membership and dancers and in the present climate with COVID-19 still circulating throughout the country running the Australian Championships would not have been in the best interests of everyone involved.
All entry monies will be refunded in due course. Please bear with us as we work through this process.
Stay tuned in the coming days and weeks for more announcements about other events, including some new and exciting online opportunities.
We thank everyone for their patience and for the support we have already received during this extremely challenging time. We all hope that all of our community continue to remain safe wherever you are.
Best wishes, and thank you to you all for your support. Stay safe and keep dancing.

- AIO I understand extending the closing date once due to lockdowns but to keep extending it means dancers who submitted their videos first time around have now lost all interest in this Feis. - Yes. But keep in mind, our Nationals are closed to international competitors, so this competition (which draws dancers from Australia, New Zealand and Asia) gives us all a chance to compete against each other in a top class facility. The fact that it isn’t a qualifier doesn’t really make a difference given that International entrants wouldn’t be eligible to qualify anyway. This year's dance calendar is a little bare, I don't know if I will be at the QLD State Championships as nobody has responded to my messages... but the slot is reserved anyway :)
I will also try to get to some ACT competitions as long as they don't clash with other commitments. I won't be at the AIO or Nationals for the usual reasons...

- Very disappointed to see that AIDA is once again using an overseas company for their merchandise at the AIO this year, surely in these times they could have sourced an Australian company for this even if it meant paying a little more I'm sure the majority would prefer to support Australian made in this day and age -- Aussie 🇦🇺, Sun, May 23 2021, 11:11:23"

- Liz and myself will be vending at the ACT Comp on Saturday. I would like to say thank you to Liz Gregory for giving us the opportunity to attend. I will have my Pandora’s Irish charms on a 50% discount so if you have a Birthday or just want to give a gift to someone special now is the time to get a great deal. - Adjudicators -- Siting on the fence, Fri, Apr 02 2021, 14:53:43"
With the National judging panel likely to be all Australian Adjudicators, what are people thoughts on adjudicators judging students that used to dance under them but are now at a new school. Is it possible to judge neutral?

- It would be nice to believe that they would be neutral, but I think human nature would at least make them look a bit longer/harder and perhaps be a bit more critical. Maybe not though, no way to tell unless their marks are considerably different to the rest of the panel. (NT) -- Good luck, Fri, Apr 02 2021, 16:19:40"
- I think you just have to go and dance and what will be will be. Hopefully there will be enough Ad's who don't take out whole schools if they judge and hopefully the borders will be open so we can all go. (NT) -- :), Sat, Apr 03 2021, 19:43:01"
- As much as a teacher espouses they are impartial towards their former dancers, there are some (not all) teachers who have neither the required maturity or grace to move on. When a dancer transfers schools the root cause is mostly due to the teacher. You can't tell me that a former teacher acting as an adjudicator will consciously be unprejudiced when they have been heard stating "No one improves when they leave me" - they are acutely aware of their former dancers’ weaknesses and will more than likely focus on them, and not the actual dancing as a whole (see more inside). -- Sceptical, Fri, Apr 09 2021, 17:38:38"
- Reading all these comments confirms my reasons for taking my daughter out of dancing (NT) -- Previous dance mum, Sun, Apr 18 2021, 21:25:22"
- Seeing the panel, several of the AD's listed haven't taught actively for years so previous students are not an issue. Given some are barely involved at all, I'm more concerned about off the wall results from out of touch old timers who are still judging based on what they liked 30 years ago (NT) -- Gonna be some whacky marks, Tue, Apr 27 2021, 16:45:08"
- It’s a worry that these judges don’t actually teach. (NT) -- Might be out of date with dancing, Mon, May 17 2021, 23:34:54"
- Just wondering why the rules of wearing tights in 14 and over in blackout is not being regulated in Victoria, so many at the Feis yesterday not following this rule and wasn't enforced by the members. This was not fair on the few who did follow this rule -- Why?, Sun, May 16 2021, 11:24:49"

- Practice space in Perth available -- CF, Sun, Jan 03 2021, 17:14:10"
I'm not sure if anyone from Perth even reads the voy boards anymore but I thought I'd put my offer out on here as a starting point. I'm studying traditional sets and ceilis for both CRN and CIDA (Celtic and Irish Dance association based in Australia) and hire a hall in the Applecross area every second Saturday from 0830-0930. If anyone would like to use the space for their own exam study or solo practice you are more than welcome to join me at no charge. I have already paid for the year in advance but its getting lonely practicing and studying on my own and I would welcome anyone who wouldn't mind spending some of the hour dancing ceilis with me and my imaginary friends.
I haven't danced competitively in over 20 years so this isn't a class and I don't have insurance except for my own personal health insurance. It is simply a practice place and hopefully to make some new study buddies/friends.
If you are interested in getting up early every second Saturday morning please contact me in the email address in this message and I can give you further information.
Genuine enquiries only please
