Since I believe in individual liberty and darn little government control, I have pondered if it was indeed right for the government to have any say on the issue or not. On one hand, I have agreed that each individual must choose if they follow God or not... and this does come down to that, doesn't it?

However, after pondering a great deal and examining the purpose of government, I have decided it is rightful government to prohibit abortion. The purpose of government after all is to protect life, liberty and property. No one can deny that abortions take lives- snatch them in midair, as it were. So I support a government ban on abortion, just as I support a government ban on shooting people, or smothering them... and it doesn't even boil down to a person's personal belief... one might believe they aren't wrong to shot a retarded person or someone who is wheelchair bound, claiming quality of life... just because someone believes it doesn't make it so. And just because someone doesn't believe an unborn child is alive, doesn't make it so. Government exists to protect life, and I think that means all human life.

This is a difficult thing... but the t ruth is that we are self-governed. Therefore we are accountable for the acts of our government. If we agree with or approve of or even just appathetically accept the acts of our government, we are accountable for them. And when a government allows abortion and we quietly stand by then are we not accountable for that?

I think we need to be trying to make a difference, trying to influence politicians, friends, families and others to change what the government sets it's approval on.

PS The abortion issue is also what made me unhappy with the LP.
