Hi All

In November this year, I've been a John Thaw fan for ten years. Wow doesn't time fly when you're having fun, or growing up in my case! It seems like yesterday when my Stepfather, Steve sat me down to watch Inspector Morse: The Wench Is Dead, after being beaten up on the way home from school. I can't believe how much my life has changed since that day!

I would like to mark the milestone in someway, and was wondering if my friends here had any ideas on the programes that I should watch.

In November I'm going to watch some of my fav programmes which John made. However its going to be a little harder than normal, as I will (fingers crossed) be in my final year at university. Yet I want to set aside at least two evening a week, in November where I can watch John to celebrate this fact!

I have so many brilliant proformances to choose from, I was hoping that everyone on here could help me out. I know I will be watching Inspector Morse: The Wench Is Dead. however I would love some suggestions on what else I should add to my list!

Thanks

Leila x

A huge THANK YOU, to Janet, for the information on John's performances, boy i never dreamt he'd done that much stuff in such a short space of time.

Janet, it must have taken you many years to collate that information, you know more than many pubic websites do, and that's a fact.

Everyone on here should be very proud of you, because you are a true fan of John, and if someone wants to know something about him, you have the answers.

Hi Janet,

I just tried to email you again, and, once again, it got bounced. The message said there is a permenant flaw in the address and/or the address is too long. Doesn't make sense as that's the address I've always use.

So maybe, send me something and I'll see if I can reply.

Also, I'm going to email you from my Yahoo address. See if that goes through. I miss you. Karen PS I'm in Avalon. Will try to get to the library tomorrow and check.

When did you all became a fan of John, how old were you, and did you know then that he was the actor you would be interested in for life, and who has been John's longest fan?

I know i've not been here before and i'm rather nosey to find out how you all came to find this wonderful actor.

Sadly for me, it came after my father died last year, he had some video's in his collection that were of John, and i intended to throw them out as you do when clearing someone's house.

But decided first to see what was on them, (they weren't titled), and i was surprised that they were of John, and i got engrossed watching him that i completely forgot why i was there in the first place, so you can imagine i kept them.

My age when this happened last year, 60, so i've missed an awful lot, but dad would tell me when i was younger though not interested in tv about performances that John was doing on screeen, i was more into cars and bikes then watching television.

Sorry i'm going on an awful lot, this is a wonderful forum and the website is awsome, you've all put in a great amount of time, and it shows, i'll be back in the future if you'll allow me.

As my pc is about to get far too noisy for me to concentrate, ha-ha!!

1. Do you have any idea when "New Tricks" is coming on, the new series? I've just got my sister hooked on it!

2. Do you know if Sheila will do a book signing tour, with her new book, like she did last time?

I've been meaning to ask her but with this dam pc playing up it just slips my mind.
Cheers Janet.

I'm sure back in the 60's there was a drama called "School's Drama", and John was in it, so my father told me, is this true, and if so does anyone know anything about it, and if it's available or not? Though my father could have been on about something completly different, as memories aren't so good as you get older are they?

Well...

As you all know yesterday Sandra and I went to see Harold Pinter's The birthday Party at the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre. The show was brilliant but as I sit and write this, the next morning, I am still confused with what really happened in the show.

The Lyric theatre was a really surprise for me, because from the outside I doesn’t look like a lovely old theatre, inside it is amazing, and very, very nice. Taking our seats we wait for the show. The show opens and as usual there are lots of pauses. Petey (Alan Williams) arrives on Stage, reads his paper, then you meet Meg (Sheila Hancock). Meg doesn’t seem to live in the real world, she seems to think everything is lovely and asks the same questions over and over. She lives in a dream world, however Petey does, he tells her he meet two men on the beach who wanted room, and that they would come and see her today. Then we meet Stan (Justin Salinger) and there seems to be a lot of Meg trying to get something more from Stan. She even tries to put her hand down his top, Meg seems like a teenager, in a grown woman, we meet Lulu (Sian Brooke) soon after Meg goes shopping. We meet Goldberg (Nicholas Woodeson) and McCann (Lloyd Hutchinson). When Mag tells them its Stan’s birthday they plan a party (even through Meg is a month early). The curtain falls on the first act and you’re not too sure what is really happening.

The Second Act is the Party, and strange things start happening, the funniest moment is Meg in her party dress. Goldberg slaps her bottom, which made me laugh! Meg is the belle of the ball. However Stan isn’t happy. I got the feeling that he knew Goldberg but as they start to bully him I really don’t get what is happening as Stan starts to snap. They play party games which ends with Stan trying to kill Meg, and the lights going out and the second act finishes with Stan laughing and Lulu lay on the table.

The third act is the morning after the night before and is shorter than the rest of the acts. Meg has a hangover, Petey missed the party and Goldberg slept with Lulu. Stan is going mad in his room. Petey tries to stop Goldberg and McCann leaving with Stan but they leave with him, but he doesn’t tell Meg, who seems to believe that Stan is still in his room and the curtain falls.

Nothing is explained, and you have to make guesses. However at the same time the play is amazing and well put together, its brilliantly acting. After the show I waited to meet Sheila in the bar of the theatre and her first question was how did you like it, I was truthful and said it was brilliant but I am completely confused. Sheila said that is the right reaction. Sheila told me what she thought the play was about and explain a few pointers. Before we talked about other things, all the time people were coming up to Sheila, and telling her she had been great. And she had been. It was brilliant. Sheila walked us to the underground stop before heading for her car (she only lives a short distance away from the theatre) It was great seeing her again!

Sandra I am glad you had a good time, and thanks for coming to my train with me, I got back to Nottingham and was in bed for three this morning! I hope to see you again soon!!

Love Leila x
