No, I think that legalising prostitution is what protects sex trade workers from HIV and other STDs, not to mention the sickos that they will inevitably meet up with if they turn tricks for any length of time.

I am sure you've all heard about Vancouver's sicko, Willy Pickton, who has been preying on women in the downtown eastside (mostly sex trade workers) for at least a few years now (around 50 women are missing or confirmed dead).

The point is, I disagree with prostitution (both selling sex and buying it), but it's like drugs--we'll never get rid of it, only drive it underground. Making it legal and regulated does many positive things--you can tax it, you can protect the women, you can keep it isolated in a red light district. You could argue it would encourage people to either buy or sell sex, but I don't buy it. At least not to any large degree--certainly the benefits would far outweigh that.
