Gwenneveire whimpered, struggling to lift herself up. All around her, in a circle of scorched grass and scored earth, lay the bloody, mangled corpses that had, moments ago, been the guards-- but the killing had not been hers. A mighty wave of power had washed over the scene, mingled with intense rage, and it had slaughtered the guards and badly hurt Gwenneth.
Her front legs wobbled violently beneath her and she sank to the ground again, wincing at the violent throbs of pain that pulsed throughout her entire body. In the pressure of the moment-- and the earth still trembled beneath her from the shock of what had hit it-- she had reverted to her natural form, and she simply didn't have the strength to support her own weight. If a human came along now...
Just then, the mindlink of the newcomer, the lir to the young female who had drawn Jeff safely away from the city, reached her. ::I am here, friend lir,:: she replied wearily, her sides heaving. ::But I am gravely injured. I am sorry to impose upon you, but for the moment I am at your mercy. It would appear that someone would not have us succeed in attuning my boy. ...Please, friend lir, is my boy safe?::

Jeffery pushed aside a few branches and glanced nervously over his shoulder. He was about fifty yards into the woods, farther from the city than he'd ever been in his life. But the 's cries seemed to have halted in one place, which was hopeful. He wondered where the guards had gone; they could have helped him get the safely back to the city.
Just then, the cries stopped. Alarmed, he spun around, peering anxiously into the shadows. "Hello?" he called. "Are you alright? I'm coming!" He shoved his way quickly through the brush, and in a few moments stumbled into a small clearing. And there she sat, not ten feet from him.
She sat on a bed of leaves as though it were a throne, her stance delicate and vulnerable as she loosely held what Jeff assumed to be the offending ankle. Her pale blue eyes, the color of ice, were far away, and she didn't seem to realize he was there. Jeff's mouth fell open slightly as she turned her head, her white-blonde hair spilling over her shoulder. There was an aura about her, an air of knowledge yet innocence that stopped Jeff's breath in his throat.
Suddenly her eyes cleared, and she gasped slightly as she saw Jeff standing there.
"I... uh... um... hello?" Jeff stammered, his face reddening. "I, uh, heard you yelling... And I thought..."
